I want to major in Political Science or Internal Affairs, most of my EC's show a passion for politics and the democratic process. I was born and raised in Canada and came here when I was 13. Just got my SAT's, so please chance me.

Schools:

Yale (Early Action) (Top Choice)
Georgetown (School of Foreign Affairs) (Second Choice)
UChicago
Duke
Brown
Dartmouth
UCBerkeley
UCLA
Amherst

Yale - REACH...you usually have to have some exceptional connection with the school to be considered a "Match"...my school's valedictorian (2300+ SAT, fencing and tennis team captain, debate team something-or-other) was flat out REJECTED, not even waitlisted (though she was at Princeton).

Georgetown - MATCH!...I know somebody with a significantly lower rank than you and fewer EC's who got in. Maybe raise your Math score though.

UCBerkeley - MATCH!...maybe raise your Math score though.

UCLA - MATCH!...no need to raise any score, really.

I think you will get into Berkeley and UCLA, but I suppose all the others will be "reaches".

Thank God the public schools don't mind ethnicity. Private schools are very unfair toward Asian kids, in my opinion.

That's why you don't mark ethnicity. Ever. I don't. Not even for SAT's and AP tests for fear that College Board is involved in some affirmative action conspiracy with all the top universities.

And if you have a name like Chang or Wu or Patel or Gupta, well, tough luck I guess? lol.

But seriously, just don't ever mark your race if you're an Asian applying to a private college.

Well, as you noted, last name can't be helped. And at least where I go to high school, 80% of the asian kids have blatantly asian last names.

How about Duke and Chicago? One tier below the ivies? Are those generally easier?
