-1200/1730 on my SAT (680 on math, 520 on reading, and 530 on writing) and I am going to retake it as well as take the ACT in October.

-Im am borderline 3.5 GPA. (note I go to a private school so my GPA is calculated different, but I found out how UCF calculates it (adding weight to Honors and AP and such) and I have around a 3.5)

-Im taking several Honors and Ap courses this year. (I took honors courses all other three years.)

-I have somewhere around 300 to 400 service hours ( i have to check) The main chunk of which came from a 2 week missionary trip in South America I did over the summer. I also accumulatred hem through altar serving for the past 3 years, judging in middle school debate tournaments, and helping in several school activitis.

-I have two strong leadership positions: I am the executive producer for my schools news network (which i have been on for my 3rd year this year.) AND i am the co-founder of my schools enviromental club.

-I have a leter of reccomendation from my Pricipal (who is a Marist Brother) and am getting one from my councilor, my Honors history teacher, and probably my math teacher

-Also I have been in my schools debate team and participated in local and a few national tournaments (I am not a very good debater, but I try my best and I love the experience) for the past 2 years and continuing on my last year this year.

your chances aren't impossible or anything like that. your math score is good however your reading and writing are pretty low. Try retaking the SAT ... maybe you'll do better in the ACT.

i think you have a chance at UF. if you look at its acceptance rates and stats, you should be fine. i took the SAT three times and didn't improve at all. the act helped just a little though. since you have a lot of service hours and a 3.5 GPA is considered fairly well, then getting into UF shouldn't be a problem.

I don't think you have much of a chance at all unless you are a URM. My friends son, a DOUBLE legacy with a 4.2 GPA and a 1270 (M/CR) SAT, was rejected for summer 2008 admission. He is currently at UCF (he didn't feel right going to FSU after his Gator based childhood). Granted he only took one AP class but he had over 300 community service hours.

lindz.12, are you crazy? UF is extremely hard to get in to (at least as far as public universities go). The average SAT is almost 1300, and the average GPA is 4.0ish I believe. Getting into UF certainly will be a problem for the OP.

To the OP, I'm not trying to crush you spirits or anything, but you have a slim chance at getting in as your stats are now. But I can sympathize with you... because my SAT's are only a little higher than yours(still like 80 points below the average) so I'm not counting on getting in either. My only hope is that my GPA is pretty high...
Anyway, good luck and I hope you get in!

You can't get accepted without applying, so apply. I have to agree your chances are not good. The UF GPA takes into account ONLY basic core courses: math, english, history/social studies/science and language for the GPA they use to consider you. There is weighting, but they do not use electives other than extra core type course. They will also see the low CR scores.

Nothing is impossible, but have other backup plans.

haha I'm glad you're taking a mature position on acceptance. definitely apply if you want to go there, but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't happen. Here are the facts: the average math score is a 635. Avg CR is 615. So Average SAT is about 1250/1600.

Every college calculates GPA differently, but here is UF's breakdown:
82% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher
11% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
3% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49.

Also, class rank:
76% in top 10th of graduating class
92% in top quarter of graduating class
98% in top half of graduating class

So, as you can see, the majority of people are in the top 10%, have above a 3.75 (MAY be weighted! Not sure) GPA, and average SAT is about 1250.

Dag - I don't think you need a 1400 SAT to have a great shot at UF. The Honors requirement is a 2070 (or close, im not sure), which is less than 700 on each section (1400 is 700 avg on two sections).
