What are my chances? SOS please!! UC's and east coast

I just finished soph year .
with a 10-12 gpa of 3.5 uw and a 3.83 w (really low for my school like a bay area school ) (not UC gpa) and a 33 on the ACT

good ec, like TKD (martial arts) since 2nd grade, tennis, and other things over the summer like an internship at a tech startup

I want to go into either Business or Comp Sci
what chances do I have at the middle UCs (UCSB, UCI, UCD, UCSD?.)
and others like Purdue, Pepperdine, Cal poly Slo (I’m a cali resident)

and east coast schools, like UIUC ( really want to go), NYU (low chance ?), northwestern, RIT… GIT?, boston uni, u of wash,

thank you

Wait to see how you do junior year. UCs take into account 10-11th grade GPA.

the gpa is with my predicted junior year stats,

And in your other posted thread, you said that you did not take the ACT yet and that your GPA was way lower. So which post is correct?

wait sorry the GPA posted is the PREDICTED GPA when junior year is taken into factor

its predicted ACT and GPA that I am like 99% sure I’m getting sorry for being confusing I’m just kind of freaking out,

Relax and focus on grades/standardized testing. Try to not spend time on CC when you can use your time wisely to improve your school performance.

This is coming from a parent who won’t let his kid have a CC account. As my son says, I give zero *****'s about what people think. Take care of your self first and wait until you have real results. Then post and see what happens.

It is great that you want to turn things around and work hard to bump up your GPA, but you should not be selecting schools based on what you want right now. You need to select schools that fit your stats and you have a solid chance of getting an acceptance.

UC’s require a minimum UC GPA of 3.0 to apply. You will need to wait until end of Junior to determine if you qualify.

That said this is the reality. Getting into any UC will be difficult with a low GPA. UC’s place GPA/Test scores/HS course rigor and essays as very important. EC’s are important will not make up for a subpar academic performance.

Just to give you an idea of admit rates based on UC GPA (capped weighted) for the UC campuses:

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.00-3.39

UCB/UCLA/UCSD: 1%
UCI/UCSB: 2%
UCD: 4%
UCSC: 18%
UCR: 38%
UCM: 67%

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79:

UCB: 2%
UCLA: 3%
UCSD: 6%
UCD: 15%
UCSB: 14%
UCI: 13%
UCSC: 59%
UCR: 78%
UCM: 92%

As you can see, even if you are able to bump up your GPA into the 3.4 range, the UC’s you have listed are High Reaches. UC Merced and UC Riverside (depending upon major) would be your only possibilities. Senior grades are not used for admission purposes for the UC’s. You do however need to maintain a minimum 3.0 weighted GPA, Senior year to keep your acceptance.

Since you are in California, you have many other good options such as the Cal states and private schools.

First find out which Cal State is your local in-service area school. As a local, you get priority and will require a lower eligibility index to get an acceptance. All bets are off if your local campus and/or major are impacted.
Cal States do not consider Senior grades or EC’s in their admission decisions.

Eligibility index-= (UC/CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math+CR) OR (CSU GPA x200) + (ACT composite x10)

Cal States admit by EI and major. Minimum 2900 EI for SAT and 694 for ACT will get you into the non-impacted campuses: Dominguez Hills, Channel Islands, Bakersfield, Stanislaus and East Bay

Here is a link for CSU impacted campuses and majors: https://www.calstate.edu/sas/documents/impactedprogramsmatrix.pdf

Private schools will take into 9-12 grades (Mid-year Senior grades), test scores, EC’s, essays and letters of recommendation.

I would look at Univ of La Verne, Univ of Redlands, Whittier College, Concordia, St Marys, Cal Lutheran to name a few that might fit your goals.

Another alternative would be going the community college route. For the UC’s, you can TAG into 6 of the 9 UC campuses (UCI-no TAG for Business and UCSB- no TAG for CS). If you complete all course requirements and maintain the required GPA for TAG, you are guaranteed an acceptance at your UC school.

You can also transfer to a top Cal state by attending a community college and doing well. There are many different paths you can take to reach your eventual goal.

Just remember that where you go for Undergrad will not define you.

UIUC CS probably very little chance, though I’d say you have a decent shot at business. But don’t try to go to UIUC if you actually want CS as it’s near-impossible (even with perfect grades) to transfer in.
