Hi, I will continue this post in the second entery, this is a test to make sure it works.

All right, continue. Please post your scores (SSATs, GPA), current school type (public, private, parochial), your Extra-Curriculars, special interests, Honors levels in school, legacies, URM, etc.

Hi, I am an 8th grader who lives in Groton Massachusetts who is currently going through the admittance process to private school. I would greatly aprecciate your opinion on if I have a chance of admittance. Thanks So Much In Advance!!

The schools I am applying to are Groton, St. Paul's, Exeter, Andover, Deerfield, Middlesex, St. Mark's and Brooks.

My Grades are good, I have an average of 94 for the seventh grade, and a 97 average for the 8th grade. My sheer bordom in school definelty attributes to these "not perfect grades." However, I dominate most class discussions and am attentive.

Overall on the SSAT, I did ok. I scored an overall percentile of 81, a 65 in reading, a 81 in verbal, and an 86 in Math. Not my best test taking day.

My reccomendations should be great, and my Cello teacher, who teaches at groton School, did a reccomendation for me.

My interviews went great, and they all said they thought i was interesting and enjoable.

In terms of my activites:

I have been on the school lacrosse team for one year.

I have played flag football (ya, I know, not the real thing) for 4 years do to no tackle team in my town.

I have been playing the cello for one year, but i excel at it and have advanced books.

I have lead roles in theatrical productions for the past 5 years and excel at art and have had multiple pieces in the art fair.

This is a continuation of my last entry:

In terms of awards, I placed fist in my middle school Geography bee sponsered by Nation Geograpghic.

I also placed first in my grades two neering contests by a long shot.

My major interests are politics, architecture and Fiannce, as in stock investing.

I have no real connections, other then my Cello teacher, and am apllying for fianacial aid, however my mom got something back fro the SSS saying that she could afford tuition. She is trying make this happen for me.

I hate to include race, but I am a cacasian catholic, however I don;t really practice it much.

Thank you so much for helping me! Eagerly awating march 10th!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it will be hard for you to get into many of the top schools you posted. St. Mark's and Brooks are easier and those can probably be matches for you. However, I doubt you will get into all of AESD and Groton. You might get into some, but you have 10 percent less of a chance of going to Groton as a day student, and as it is very competitive already, it will be hard with a 94-97 average and 80s SSAT. Your sports aren't very strong, except for football. Do you play Varsity? Could you possibly be a recruit or talk to a coach? That might help. Unless you have your heart set on Groton, I think you'll do fine. You might get into one of the top schools and probably St. Marks and Brooks.

Thanks for your responce, and no, I want to board and do not have my heart set on Groton.

Does anyone else have an opinion! I would really apr3ciate your help.

Cello and lead acting accomplishments set you apart. Also may want to look into Concord Academy, among others. Mercrersburg would be a match. Any student scoring above 79 on the SSAT is highly intelligent.

St. Andrew"s is also a match.

I know of students with perfect 99 scores who were rejected by SPS. Your reading scores concern me, especially with respect to SPS" Humanities based curriculum for the first three years. Your post screams Concord Academy-absolutely one of the best schools in the country!

Maybe you could try taking the SSAT again. If not, try applying to schools like Episcopal High School, Mercersburg, Peddie, and Lawrenceville. I would REALLY recommend those..

i think you have a chance at middlesex and st. marks and brooks. brooks would be a match.

I looked at Concord Academy, and found the people friendly, hwever the entire school had this gross smell. When I got through my interview I had a horrible headache so my mom wouldn't even let me apply. Thank for your reccomendation though.

Why does no one think I have a chance at ASED. Oh ya, my Cello teacher teaches at Groton School and did a reccomendation for me. Will this help.

You guys can be critical if you want to, I'll get over it.

Well, pretty much nobody has an amazing good chance at AESD, cause they're like the most selective schools in the US. No one but the admission officials know what the students the school wants to have, so it's hard for us to tell if you have a good chance or not. Am I right?

The truth is that you don't have great chances at AESD. I'm not saying you're a bad person. I don't know you. We're not trying to criticize here, we really aren't. But with a 60-something in one of your SSATs and the others in the 80s (while AESD's averages are above 90), your chances aren't high. You don't have a hook, though you have a strong art portfolio and cello record. We don't want you to think you're a bad person. It's just how it is. You asked for our opinion; we gave it. I suggest you apply to more schools, but if you have your heart set on AESD, then don't get your hopes up. Almost no one can.

Even Choate, Hotchkiss, and Lawrenceville have lower SSAT scores. I know that Choate accepts some people with 60s on their SSATs, so you might have a shot there. But these are very difficult schools and they are trying to determine who can handle the courseload and who can't.

You're waking up to your competitors.. most kids who apply are amazing. You've probably lived in Groton most of your life and have been told you're amazing your whole life. Maybe you are; I odn't know you. You posted your stats and I don't see anything amazing.. I don't see anything different or unique or something that I think would be a great asset to a BS community (again, I don't know you). There are 99,897 other public school 8th graders just like you. Luckily, they're not all applying. But 10% (just a figure of course) of them are. Them, plus private school legacies and ahtletic recruits and piano prodigies, is who you're up against. I don't see anything that sets you aside from them. Imho, you seem naive, which is something that they don't really want. I think they prefer world travelers and erudite scientists. But that's just a horribly honest opinion.

I not disagreaing with Olivia on my chances, but ASED's avarage SSAT scores are cetainly not above ninety. Infact, the medians arn't above ninety either. Andover does have a ninety three median, but Deerfield has an 89, St. Paul's has an 88, and Exeter, although their scores are not officially realeased, has the lowest at around 85. Also, these schools usually expect kids from ublic schools to have lower scores because they have simply not had the same type of education or oppertunities as children at privet middle and high schools. For intance, most public school kids have not learned Latin, which helps with vocab, and usualy do not have advanced english or math. My school, which is very highly regarded as one of the top 10 districts in MASS, only has advanced Math, which I'm in.

Other then that, thank you for your opiion, and I am only questioning the facts, not your opinion. Honestly, I think my chances at ASED are slim to, but because everyones are, not beacaus my SSAT is low, although it does effect admitance.

I'm pretty sure that Andover, Exeter, and Deerfield have averages in the nineties. I know St. Paul's is an 88.
Just curious, prepyhopefull; what do you think your chances are, and why?

I just realized that thier was a second page to this post, and yes Blairt, people tell me I'm "amazing", a "genious" excetra however I certainly do not think I am! Yes I have ived in Groton my whole as well, 5 minuteds away from Groton School.

Their are lots of, well not intelligent kids who applied to Groton in 7th grade in my school, and some of them got in, with a fianacial aid package and no "hooks", and obismal SSAT scores! As in 70's or mid 70's. Why, because you have to get lucky, and if your'e average but lucky then you might get in.

I don;t think my chances are great, but i am certainly not Nieve, and have spent months researching these schools. But thanks for your opinion anyway blairt.

What schools are you applying to and what are your stats?

To prettychitty, I think my chances are slim, but know worse then others with limited connections.
