What are my chances to any Ivy league/top schools?

Hi, I go to a pretty big public high school in Virginia and REALLY would like to get into top schools (I know it sounds quite eesh, but I like schools with name value)-- JHU, CMU, UVa, U of Michigan, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell, Northwestern, Duke...

What are my chances of getting in with my scores?

Race/Gender: Korean, Female
Citizenship: Korean (International applicant)
GPA (weighted; my school does not give unweighted-- +1 for AP, .5 for honors class) 4.083
SAT:
12/2008 CR 660 Math 750 Writing 600
10/2009 CR 640 Math 730 Writing 730
Planning to take 12/2009 and REALLLY wish get 2300+ (I easily get that on my practice tests but I have intense performance anxiety :( )

SAT2s:
11/2008 Korean 800 (I don't think i'll use that score)
05/2009 Math 1 730
06/2009 Math 2 750
11/2009 Biology 720
Math 2 750

TOEFL: 114/120 (should i take it one more time? I had no idea what was going on haha)

EC: Habitat for Humanity Club-Founder&President (2 years)

Awards: School Science Fair 1st place

Honor Roll all 4 years
AP Scholar with Honor

AP Exams:

World History 5
Calculus AB 5
Biology 4
US History 4
English Language 3
+taking 4 APs senior year (Calc BC, Physics B, Stat, and Spanish Language)

Senior year grades: All A's except for AP Stat, B+ (that's after A-)

So.. what do you guys think? :( Any chances/recommendations?

I am also in Model United Nations but my school never had a remarkable achievement and volunteer at a local Korean School to teach 2nd-and 3rd-generation Koreans (sometimes non-Koreans) about culture and language–I was recently promoted as a Principal’s secretary (assistant)

Judging from my somewhat limited knowledge & experience:

JHU = low reach
CMU (Central Michigan?) = match
UVA = match
UMich = match
UC Berkeley = match
UCLA = match
Dartmouth = low reach
Brown = low reach
Cornell = low reach
Northwestern = match
Duke = match

I don’t mean to be a jerk with all the low reaches, but those schools (in fact all top schools) are reaches for everybody, including people with 2400 SAT scores. Getting in is almost like winning the lottery.

I forgot, please chance back:)

[thread]815459[/thread]

Im thinking CMU is carnegie mellon…

but id say that if you can get that 2300+ SAT you will be pretty much target for most of those schools, the only thing is, many people are matched for the top schools so its a crap shoot, but you will def get into michigan…

good luck

I think you have a pretty good list of schools, but I think the Ivies on your list, as well as Duke, are pretty significant reaches. Improving your SAT could help. But your GPA presumably must contain some Bs if it is weighted. How many, and in what subjects? The most selective schools are tough–and you are from Virginia (northern Virginia?). Your ECs are very good, but they don’t include any one particular killer achievement. Also, you’re an international applicant, and that may make it more difficult at some of these schools.

I’m soooo worried about the 720 in SAT 2 Bio :frowning:
Would that be alright for the schools I’m applying to?

Here are some SAT 2 percentiles to give you some perspective:
College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools;

I had B+ in AP Biology, Spanish 2 and 3, Biology Honors, and Chemistry Honors
B in AP US History and AP English Language.

I know I had quite often B+s, but hope to make it up in my essays and/or test scores…hmm.
