What are my chances to get into Baylor University?

Hello!

Okay, so I’m in the top 25% of my class (which is BARELY competitive, I know) but I also have a 3.9 GPA. I haven’t started my junior year yet, so I haven’t taken my SAT. However, my highest projected score is around a 1300 according to my PSAT. Also, my GPA should improve because my AP classes are weighted by 8 points. I’m taking two AP classes, and two of my electives count as PAP classes, which my school weighs by 5 points.

My course load for my core classes includes (Freshman & Sophomore year):
English 1 PAP English II PAP
Social Studies PAP World History PAP
Algebra 1 Geometry
Biology Chemistry

My EC’s are a little bit dragging, but I’m starting to change that. So far, here’s what I have:
-Volunteer for crisis lifeline during my freshman year
-counselor at a camp for children with special needs
-Choir freshman year
-Varsity choir sophomore year, as well as junior year next year
-Debate (started this summer outside of school, will continue during the school year)
-NHS (Next year, my school only lets juniors do it)
-Academic Decathlon (again, signed up for it next year)

I’m also wanting to set up a community garden type thing at my school, but I have no idea if they’d be down yet.

My main choice is A&M, but I found out from the Baylor website that if my SAT score is a 1300, I qualify for some better scholarships. (However, I also understand that I can get into A&M a lot more easily.) I’m just curious about my chances of getting in as of right now. Thank you!

spinthatrecord,

I think you have a excellent chance of getting in. Keep up the good work and write an enthusiastic admissions essay and you should be golden. If your scores aren’t as high as you’d like them to be when you get your results for the SAT. don’t be afraid to take it again. I took the ACT and Baylor admitted me with a 25, but I retested to score a 28 which added a saintly amount to my scholarship. Good luck!

Thank you! I’ll probably start studying for the ACT as well as the SAT.

Baylor wants people who really want to be there. They like getting picked for early admission and getting picked as first choice. However, you need to work on your rank and SAT.
