I am a high school senior and i really want to go to UCSB. I want to major in communications or economics.
I had decent grades freshman and sophomore year and my junior year i had a 3.7 the first semester and a 4.1 the second.
As of right now my ACT score is a 28 and my SAT is a 1150.
I also have a lot of extra curriculars because i play 3 sports and i have over 400+ hours of volunteer service.
my senior year right now i have about a 3.5 in the first semester but I’m honestly kinda slacking… does anybody have any insight on my chances? I am also applying to UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, and UC Riverside also very interested in Cal Poly SLO and Cal State Los Angeles is my safety school.
What is your CSU/UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
While the UC’s and all CSU’s use the UC/CSU GPA calculation, SLO likes to be different and will include 9th grades along with 10-11th in their GPA calculation. Please also calculate your SLO GPA.
Senior grades are not considered in admission decisions for the UC’s and CSU’s. You mainly to maintain your GPA and pass all classes with a C or higher to keep your provisional admission.
My CSU/UC GPA is a 3.7
Freshman admits for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79
UCB: 2%
UCLA: 3%
UCSD: 6%
UCD: 11%
UCSB: 13%
UCI: 16%
UCSC: 47%
UCR: 64%
UCM: 80%
Based on test scores and GPA.
CSULA: Safety
UCR: Match
UCSC: High Match
SLO/UCI:/UCSB: Reach
UCSD: High Reach
UC’s are very GPA focused and other than UCR, GPA is below average.
You need more Match schools: UC Merced, SJSU, Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Fullerton, CSULB and perhaps SDSU.
Good luck.
will the amount of extra curriculars and volunteer hours help with anything?
Yes, EC’s and volunteer hours help but if you look at the common dataset for UCSB, they consider HS rigor, GPA, test scores and essays very important. EC’s and volunteer hours are considered. Also these areas are subjective so difficult to determine how much of an impact.
Basically EC’s do not make up for a lower than average GPA and test scores.
Definitely worth an application but have some solid Match and safety schools on your list so you do have good choices next Spring.
