What are my chances to get into USC's Roski School of art and design.

Hi! I’m an International student (Indian) looking to apply to the Roski school of art and design in USC. I haven’t given my SAT yet but will be appearing for my first attempt on 6th june. ( Although I did take a few practice tests and have been scoring around 1600 but i will be giving it again in november and december of this year so hopefully my score improves by then) I know that USC in general doesn’t take less than a 1900 on the SAT (Superscore). What I want to know was how strong chances do I have as far as my EC’s and HS GPA are concerned.

In India the GPA system is different than the US. instead of 4 we have a GPA out of 10.

High School GPA - (freshman, sophomore) 8/10
- (Junior) 7/10
- Currently in senior year

EC’s related to Art:

  • Art Club President (2015-16)
  • House Art Captain (Peace House) (2015-16)
  • My Artwork was printed in a USA based magazine “Teen Ink”. (March 2015)
  • Artwork received editors choice award on Teen ink’s website.
  • Made the cover illustration of the book "Sentience’ by my sister, also studying at USC)
  • Will be releasing a coffee table book in collaboration with my sister.
  • Finalist in the ‘Empowering the adolescent girl’ art competition conducted by the Canadian High commission in India.
  • Participated in the ‘Hungarian Folk Tales art’ competition conducted by the Hungarian Info.and resources centre in India.
  • 1 year diploma in ‘Studio Art’. (2013-14)
  • Participated in an art exhibition (2011)
  • 2nd runner-up in the ‘Ashlesha’ art competition held by British council.
  • Participated in many other art competitions.

Other EC’s

  • Did community service at ‘Tamanna Special School’
  • Took many years of art classes.
  • Attended photography workshops
  • Made a Facebook art page

I will also be receiving recommendations from my art teachers and 1 academic teacher at school. My sister is also studying in USC, will that affect my chances?

I think that your portfolio/artistic supplement will play a critical role in admission, and nobody here can conceivably judge it for you. Even if you posted a link, we would have no idea of what the competition looks like.
