Sophmore year average gpa was a 3.57. Currently finished my first semester junior year( i really messed up), I got a 79 on my english and 79 in u.s history. 2.86 first semester!!! I will for sure get at least a 3.5 next semester. I have not taking ap’s, I will be taking ap bio or psych and ap euro next year. What are my chances?
Without test scores, it is impossible to predict.
Cal States and UC’s use 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation so until you have finished Junior year, there is no way to know what your CSU/UC GPA will be.
If you are in-state CA, you need a minimum 3.0 UC GPA by end of Junior to apply to any of the UC’s. To be competitive for even schools like UC Merced/Riverside, think around a UC GPA of 3.4 or higher.
For the Cal states, there is a huge variation in selectivity so SFSU is definitely possible.

All the CSU’s and most of the UC’s use the capped weighted GPA (8 semesters of UC approved Honors/AP courses taken 10-11th).
Right now, figure out what happened this semester and work on getting your grades up. Do some test prep and come back at the end of Junior year with your stats so CC posters can give you some good college suggestions.
Best of luck.
Thank you, do colleges care If i take ap’s and honors senior year?
yes, you want a strong senior schedule.
But don’t kill yourself, especially since 1st semester senior grades matter
UC’s especially will consider your HS course rigor, so taking a challenging course schedule can help for both the UC”s and CSU’s. Just make sure that you take AP/Honors courses that you think you can do well in and get solid grades. All admission decisions are provisional meaning if you fall below a C grade in any of your Senior courses, your acceptances can be rescinded.
CSUs use an index that combines your CSU GPA and SAT or ACT. Without an SAT/ACT, it is conjecture but, i am not above that… if you have a 10-11 GPA around 3.3 and an SAT around 1100, you’ll have an excellent shot at SFSU.
As for UCs, . I don’t think they would be in the cards. Merced, the ‘easiest admit’ among them has an avg GPA around 3.7.
For Psych, I’d encourage you to also apply to Chico, Sac and Sonoma.
good luck.
