What are my chances to several Boston-area (non-Ivy) schools?

I am looking at applying to Boston University, Northeastern University, Suffolk University, and Emerson College. I know BU and Northeastern are honestly reaches probably. However, Emerson is where I truly want to go. I would also like to know if anyone knows what my chances are with the Emerson Honors Program, as that would help me out with the cost tremendously.

I am currently in the top 10% of my class though I am not sure of my exact ranking. My weighted GPA is 4.6. I'm going to retake the SAT and actually study for it this time (lol) but I got an 1880 my first time around, with my biggest problem area being math which I think I can do a lot better on if I work hard. My SAT subject test scores I just got back and they're gross but I got a 690 on US History II, a 660 on Lit, and a 560 (world's smallest violin plays softly in the background) on Math I though honestly I probably won't send them if a school doesn't require them unless I retake them and do significantly better.

I am a white female and I am from in-state (I am from Massachusetts). The honors and AP courses I have taken are Honors English (9), Honors World History (9), Honors English (10), Honors U.S. History 1 (10), Honors Biology (10), AP Lang & Comp (11), AP US History 2 (11), Honors Latin IV (11), Honors Algebra 2 (11). My final grades in all these classes were an A- or better except for APUSH and Honors Latin IV which I received a B and B+ in for my final grades respectively. I have been a honors student through all three of my high school years so far and had straight A's all throughout my freshman and sophomore years with my only B's being in my junior year in those classes I mentioned.

The courses I am taking next year are AP Computer Science, AP Lit, AP Euro, either AP Psych/AP Environmental Science (depending on how my schedule goes), Honors Pre-Calc, and a select chorus class.

My activities are:
Drama Club ( years 9-12, principal and supporting roles, was a student director for the spring show my junior year)
Key Club (years 9-12, vice president 11-12)
National Honors Society (11-12, we can only be accepted as juniors at my school and I am a tutoring coordinator)
Student Council (10-12, class representative)
Women's Choir/A Capella Group (9-12)
Choir (including the select (auditioned) choir I mentioned, this is just a class at my school but I've stuck with it all four years and it includes A LOT of out-of-school things)
Fiction Club (9-12)
School Newspaper (11-12)
Robotics Club (I'm only doing this next year because a good friend of mine is president and wants my help because I'm good with coding and she wants me to be "business manager")

I am also on a teen council at my local library that helps plan/host events there for the community as well as partake in other activities and I have been taking voice lessons outside of school since 8th grade. Also, next year, I'm hoping to create a feminist club at my school which I am doing because it's something I'm passionate in, not just to look better on college applications. I just thought it was worth mentioning. I'm also going to be working at a nursing home soon.

As far as awards/accolades go, I honestly don't think I have anything that great. All the awards at my school save for senior year are based on the highest grades in each class.

I was accepted into two music (choral) festivals so far in high school which were the Junior District Music Festival (I also was in this same festival in 8th grade) and the Senior SEMSBA Music Festival. I was also given the opportunity to sing with a local yet well-known orchestra.

Academic awards include a Physics award (9), an Algebra I award (9), a Latin 2 award (9), and Magna Cum Laude on the National Latin Exam for Latin 3 (10). That is about it, tragically.

Also, this was in middle school so I probably should not mention it but in 8th grade, I came in second place for a state wide art contest. I was also first in my county and my art was displayed in the Massachusetts State House. I also won about $1000 from it so that was pretty neat.

I'm also eligible for the Abigail Adams Scholarship in Massachusetts. It's based on our scores on the state standardized testing they make us take each year from third grade to sophomore year. It means I got advanced on at least one of the tests and proficient on another in my sophomore year, though I actually received advanced on both. Again, not sure if that's worth mentioning.

That's about it, I think. Thank you to anybody who takes the time to read this. I know I am not Ivy-material or anything but I'm still working hard so that I might be able to go to a school I am interested in.

Hi. Sorry I can’t answer your question about your chances, however, I just wanted to suggest PWN the SAT if you were looking to improve your math score. I can’t help but recommend it seeing as I raised my math score by 140 points using that book for only about 3 weeks. Just thought I’d make the suggestion since on my first SAT (which I didn’t study for!) I got about the same score as you (1850). Good luck with everything though!

Hey @blue652‌ , thanks so much! I appreciate every response, even if you don’t know enough about these schools to tell me about my chances. I will definitely check that out. I’ve heard of PWN the SAT before. I really need to raise my SAT score as evidently for the Honors Program at Emerson, you need about a 1300 combined score for the Math and Critical Reading sections and I currently have a 1210 for those two sections. So again, I’ll look into it! Thanks for the recommendation.

If you got the SAT into the 1950 range, you’d have more of a shot for BU, NE. Right now I’d say you’re high match/low reach for Emerson. Suffolk is a safety.

@jjmopp I went from 1220 to 1390! And that was with just a rushed 3 weeks prep in April before the May SAT. So you should definitely have more time to prepare this summer and I have no doubt that you won’t be able to get over 1300! Good luck!

@skieurope Thank you so much for your response. I am definitely going to try to get my SAT score up, as I’ve said and just in general hope for the best. I’m mostly concerned about Emerson because that is 100% my top school. Sorry to be annoying but are you familiar with the Emerson Honors Program? I just want to know if I’d have a chance (I need the extra tuition help badly) though I know I probably have to get my scores up, thank you.

I’m familiar with Emerson, but not specifically the Honors Program. Good luck.
