Hi everyone! I was just wondering my chances to the UC’s… I have a 4.23 weighted UC GPA, but a 4.0 capped and weighted UC GPA (whatever that means, just thought it was helpful). As well, I received a 1250 on the SAT, a 610 on the English portion, and a 640 on the math section. In terms of extracurriculars, I have done cross country and track for 3 years, am a member and was leader for two years of a science academic program at my school, and I am a secretary for the business leaders club at my school. I also had a job at a store in the mall this summer. In total, I have taken 7 AP classes in my high school career. I am hoping to enter as a finance majors at the following UC’s: UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UCR, and maybe UCD. What are my chances of being accepted to those schools?
your GPA and ECs look good but, your SAT will probably keep you out of the top 2-3 UCs.
Since you want to study Finance, I’d add CP SLO and SDSU to your ap list.
Good luck.
I agree with @NCalRent that your GPA is competitive but you should consider retaking your SAT and aim for a 1400+ for the best chances. Even the Mid-tier UC’s are not a guarantee with your test scores but UC’s will also evaluate you based on your personal insight essays and EC’s.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 (capped weighted) not major specific;
UCB: 12.6%
UCLA: 11.7%
UCSD: 38.7%
UCSB: 53.6%
UCD: 56.5%
UCI: 52.1%
UCSC: 75.7%
UCR: 90.1%
UCM: 96.1%
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:
UCB: 1360-1540
UCLA: 1340-1540
UCSD: 1300-1520
UCSB: 1270-1500
UCD: 1220-1480
UCI: 1230-1490
UCSC: 1210-1450
UCR: 1130-1380
UCM: 1020-1280
Apply widely and I only see UCR as a Safety school. SDSU would probably be a Safety while SLO could be a High Match/Low Reach school with your SAT.
