I am applying to the Actuarial Science program in the Wharton School, so here is my info
I came to the US two year ago from China, so i had a hard time picking up communication, but I improved quickly.
ACT 29 (math 35 science 30 English 25 reading 24)
GPA weighted:4.34 GPA unweighted:3.92
good essay
200 hour volunteer at YMCA
officers of 5 clubs/organizations including treasurer of 3 clubs, VP of 1, Historian of 1
so what are my chances? ;(

my rank is like 10% weighted.
taking the calc BC and 7 ap classes in total.
don’t worry about my GPA

When I first moved to the United States of America from China, I was in the end of the second semester of my Freshman year. I missed so much information for every class I was taking. I had problem communicating with my teachers and friends. I was not familiar with the school grading system. To solve those problems, I tried my best to catch up with the class progress, and kept practicing speaking English with my friends. However, the time was limited. So I did not earn expected grades on the final exams, which brought my GPA to an extremely low level.

In my sophomore year, I could not take many Honors classes because I was in the ESOL program (English For Speakers of Other Languages). But once I understood how it works, I tried my best to do well in the classes and practice for the FCAT, which can help me get out of ESOL program.

All my hard work finally paid off. I scored very well on the FCAT in 10th grade, so I got out of ESOL in the 11th grade. In the 11th grade, I took as many AP and Honors courses I can, because I want to build myself for the coming college life and become a better person. In the 12th grade, I’m taking four AP courses and three Honors classes.

My GPA may not be the highest due the reasons listed above, but I have been trying my best. I believe I will keep trying my best to solve any problems and challenges in the college life.

I don’t think your GPA will be the problem with Upenn, but rather, your ACT.Have you taken the Math IIC – you’ll need it for Wharton. But considering all you said thus far, I’ll have to say that Upenn is a high reach.
Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1722731-chance-me-for-cornell-stern-columbia-upenn-wesleyan-brown.html#latest

math 2; 720

You should try to retake the ACT if possible or register for the SAT (see if UPenn accepts January test scores). Wharton is one of the hardest UPenn schools to get accepted into. You should really attempt to raise your ACT score; it isn’t in the middle 50 percentile of accepted students.

UPenn common data set (C9): http://www.upenn.edu/ir/Common%20Data%20Set/UPenn%20Common%20Data%20Set%202013-14.pdf

You realize your ACT is too low for Wharton?

Your ACT is too low for UPENN

I think that your stats are decent, but your ACT is a bit low for UPenn- have you considered retaking it? It’ll all come down to your essays in the end. Good luck! Chance back?
