Hi. I currently a junior and i want to major in computer programming.

So for 9th grade i struggled and showed lack of effort because i did not care as much as i do now.
My final avg for freshman year was a 78. I did not do any EC's that year either.

For 10th grade:
1st quarter final avg was a 88
2nd was a 82
3rd was a 87
4th was a 90.

ECS: Winter/Spring Track

Regents score
Earth Science: 94
Global: 90
Geometry: 80

And my final avg for 10th grade was a 86.59

So for 11th grade i am doing Interact club and Winter/Spring Track again.
As of right now i have high 90's and i am positive it can stay in the 90's for the rest of the year

The colleges i plan on applying to are
-New York Instit of Tech - Manhattan
-Rochester Inst of Tech
-SUNY Delhi
-Syracuse Univ
-Stony Brook (One of my siblings go there)
-Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Also i took the PSAT a couple of days ago and i feel ok about it. I been studying since the end of summer and will continue studying for the May SAT (7 months away) every day. I have a study schedule that someone on CC made me. Also on the practice Psat booklet i got a 188/240. So i am positive i can increase that to a 2000 + for my SAT.

Thank you so much for reading this! Please reply below if you know any ways i could improve my chances :D

-New York Instit of Tech - Manhattan Yeah, you could get in
-Rochester Inst of Tech A little reach, try to get over a 2000 on SAT
-SUNY Delhi You need a little higher GPA
-Syracuse Univ You need a higher GPA, about a 92
-Stony Brook (One of my siblings go there) You need a higher GPA, about a 92
-Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute You need a higher GPA, about a 92

So only NYIT seems a fit for you. You need to increase your GPA. freshmen year killed your GPA

I think APMaster was a bit harsh those are all good choices for you
RPI might be a bit out of your reach

@APmaster007
Thanks for your response! I going to try my best to get over 95+ this year and next year!

@SStephen2015

Thanks for the response! I don’t think i can get into RPI either.

Please reply if anyone else has any other opinions!

NYIT and SUNY Delhi are both academic safeties, you may even qualify for the honors program (very valuable perks).To see if those are financial safeties too, run the Net Price Calculator on each website and discuss the results with your parents.
Your 80 on Regents Geometry concerns me a little - how are you doing this year?
With a 1900 RIT and SB are matches.Syracuse and RPI would require better grades and a higher test score so you’d need to work to make them your reaches. Your math SAT score should NOT be below 600 and you should take the most advanced classes you can (up to precalculus if you can, as well as one year each of biology, chemistry, and physics, plus 4 years of English and Social Science + 3-4 years of a foreign language).

Hey @MYOS1634 . Thanks for the response! This is my schedule and grades as of right now

Civil Engineering and Architecture - 90
Computer Programming- 100
U.S Hist Honors - 90-100 (I don’t have the exact grade to some of my classes only grade ranges from the progress report)
Algebra 2 - 96
Gym- 100
Chem- 86. I trying my best to get this over 90. I still have 3 more weeks of 1st quarter remaining And one more test left till 2nd quarter.
English 11 - 90-100
Ceramics - 90-100

So i think i am doing good so far. And i was horrible at geometry, But i am good at ALG

-If i get a 95+ final avg next year and this year and 2000 + On SAT do you think ill be accepted to Syracuse and RPI? I don’t mind much if i don’t get accepted to RPI but Syracuse is a school i always wanted to go to.

These are the classes i want to take next year. I also will have the 4 years of science, engl, math, and S.S. I only have 2 years of Foreign Lang

Physics
Web Design And Dev
Comp Graphics
Pre-Calc
English(I don’t know which one yet)
S.S(Hope Fully
Digital Electronics
And if i have room i might do a other Science or Math class

I might have forgot a class. But that is what my schedule will probably look like next year

Also i will work very hard to get a 2000+ higher on the SAT. Hope fully Higher.

Thanks for reading!

I would also maybe add binghamton
Or geneseo
The top notch suny schools.
I think you seem to be a strong student

You should take a 3rd level of foreign language, that would serve you better than an extra science class.
(many universities want 3, or “prefer”/“recommend” 3, which is the same as to say “require unless your school doesn’t offer it or you’re a recruited athlete or a proven genius”. In other words, you may be cut from Syracuse, RPI, and the most selective schools on your list, if you only have 2 years of a foreign language. Very selective schools, actually, “prefer” 4.)
Yes, if you have a 94-95 average and a 2000 on your SAT, both RPI and Syracuse become “within range”. They’re still reaches but they’re definitely reachable.

Syracuse avg sat is 1750
Also it’s a highly ranked school for B students
I think with your high sat and good trends for 11 and 12th grade syracuse will be a match

@MYOS1634
Dang. I wish i took the 3rd year of Spanish. I’ll make sure i get the 2000+ Sat and 95+ Final avg the next 2 years. Also since i did not take the 3-4 years of Foreign Lang, does that mean i have no chance to Syracuse or RPI? I know a senior from my school last year who only had 2 years. But his final avg was a 90 and he had 1900 SAT.
Anyways thanks for all your help! If you have any tips to increase my chances i would appreciate it! :D

Thanks again for the response!

@SStephen2015
Too bad i did not start trying till last year. And ill check out the other schools you said. :D

Thanks for your response!

Syracuse’s average GPA/SAT score varies greatly depending on college. Business, Communications… require high scores.
You can still take the 3rd year of Spanish next year. It’ll help demonstrate rigor (also, that you’re not “lopsided”, with only science classes. I know you don’t but…)
I would also advise you “prep” for the SAT and take it more than once, so plan ahead (ie., test in the Spring Junior year, then again in the Fall Senior year).
If you need subject tests for any school, the best time to take them is May and June junior year.

@MYOS1634

Ok thanks. Ill try to take Spanish 3 next year. And yes i have a Sat Schedule that someone on CC made me.

I been studying for the past month doing one section a day, 20 Vocab words a week, One full test every weekend. (I took a SAT break this week since i took the PSAT last Saturday and needed this week to relax). Also depending on my PSAT score i might take a SAT class in the winter.

And i am planning on taking the SAT this may and next fall. Hopefully my scores will be high enough that i only need to take it once. If i get 2100 + on the May test i probably wont take the fall one. (Rather focus on EC’S next year)
And i might take the SAT math 2 Subject test,

Also i will try to get a internship or job this summer. Does a Internship look better then a job?
Anyways thanks for all the help!!!
