What are my chances to transfer into schools like UCLA and Berkeley for Political Science?

My transfer GPA currently stands at 3.6, which will be a 3.7 by fall.

I am in the TAG program for CCC and plan to transfer in the fall of 2023. That said, I think that should help me out, at least for the middle tier schools like UCSB (the one I plan to tag), UCI, UCSD etc. I am also considering USC but that seems a little far-fetched.

I lack an extensive amount of EC’s but I am in a club at my CC, I work a part-time job and have some volunteer work. I’m also going to begin an internship w/ Raul Ruiz…

Let me know any feedback is appreciated on how I can strengthen my chances!

Thank you for this!
I am really hoping I get into either or both, but I’ve heard it’s unpredictable in recent years!

As long as you are happy with your TAG campus, anything else is just “icing on the cake”. 2022 data should be out in January/February 2023 so hopefully the numbers will look more favorable. There was a decrease in the # of transfer applications overall for Fall 2022 so if the trend continues, the situation can be helpful for California CC transfers for Fall 2023.

I would say your past history + essays will be the main factors. So really make sure those essays get a good 5-20 revisions, everything from grammar to voice to pacing to word choice is as perfect as you can get it.

The past history is what it is, but how you might incorporate it into the essays and tie it in to a convincing portrait of you and a future p.sci major will be another key.

Eg Ruiz experience.
It could be a brief mention in the essay or app, meaningless.
Or it could be longer, reveal your true desire to be in the field, motivations/dreams/what you learned/etc, and be a powerful reason for the readers to choose you.

You have this USP (marketing - unique selling point), so you’ll want to carefully leverage it well to present your case as the reader’s choice over others.
