I'm am applying to The Naval Academy and West Point. What are my chances of getting accepted into one (or both) of these schools? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, thank you for considering the commitment of either academy. At first glance, your credentials make you very viable (academics, athletic record, etc.). However, I think you really need to get on your horse as far as the application process goes. There are forums specifically for both WP and USNA. Go there quickly to see where you need to get to speed (nomination, other deadlines). Other applicants, parents and even current cadets lurk there and will be able to offer good advice.

Best of luck to you on your endeavor.

There are also several prep schools (my son’s school, Northfield Mount Hermon, is one of them), that are considered prep schools for the Naval Academy. The year my older son graduated, 5 kids from the class entered the Academy.

^There are also prep schools for the academies (Navy Prep, Air Force Prep, Army Prep) that people go to for a year after HS to improve their chances of getting into one.

im a junior in high school, also a korean american.my gpa is estimated to be 3.4-3.5gpa(out of 5 scale).3.0 freshman, 3.5 soph. 3.8 junior. It is very low, i know that, because i was not very motivated during my freshman year, and i began to prepare for the military colleges during freshman year when it was a bit late.My practice sat scores for now are 700-math/600-writing/570 reading. I am still studying for the SATS and expect improvements. i have participated in 1 year of winter track, will have played 3 years of tennis(2jv, 2varsity) at the end of this year and i have done wrestling for 2 years so far. I am in the ASA club/chess club/archery club/ and adventure club. I have volunteered for the korean american census bureau, MILAL(korean program in helping disabled children and adults),new vision, and currently firefighting for my township. I am an active church-goer,and part of the Praise Band. I have been told by many that i have a great personality(puts me into a good place for interviewing), funny, very kind, caring, determined. My grandfather was a General in the Korean Military during the Korean War.My father served as a marine.
My personal goals are in chronological order: Accepted into summer seminar for either USMA/USNA, receiving a nomination from a political figure, then finally enrolling into USNA/USMA.
I’d like to know my chances in any of these. also, Feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated.

@duke: The choice to do a prep year at Northfield Mount Hermon, (my school) is given to you by the Academy. You would be contacted and would then do a civil prep year. There are two civil prep students at NMH now.

I’d say you have a good shot at USNA, as long as you ace the CFA. I hope you have applied already and have a nomination. Time is running out, and applications are long done for nominations.
