What is your UC GPA? (sophomore & junior grades only) It is the GPA that all UCs will use in their admissions decisions. UCs are also very GPA focused so a high GPA is very crucial and can really make all the difference.
Since you have not provided it, I will base your chances solely on your 1300 on the SAT, which if I’m not mistaken is around an 1820 on the old scale/2400 scoring.
UCI - high match (its SAT score average is 1730, 25% rank score is 1550, 75% rank score 1900, meaning you’re nearly above average in terms of SAT only)
UCSC - match (its SAT score average is 1690, 25% rank score is 1490, 75% rank score 1910, so your UCI chance is pretty similar with your UCSC chance but UCI is slightly more competitive)
UCLA - high reach (need I say anything? It’s a reach for everyone.)
UCSB - high reach
In order to raise your chances, a 1400+ would be better as UCs can be quite competitive, especially with biomedical engineering/bioengineering as a top choice of most applicants.
Add some safeties like CSUs and CCs. You may want to consider UCM and UCR too because if your school is an ELC participating school, then you’re probably ELC eligible as you said you’re top 9% of your school.
Good luck.
thank you for your advice @htms13ytk
yes 3.7 unweighted and 3.8 weighted is the GPA which will be going to the colleges
- I have a last questions maybe you know the answer:
Do colleges look whether WE suit well to the COLLGE or do they look whether WE suit well to the chosen MAJOR ? Thank you
- And do you think that my failure in the AP Bio exam will have major effects on whether I will be accepted or not ?
You need some Safeties and more Match schools.
UCSC: Match
UCI: High Match
UCSB: Reach
UCLA: High Reach
AP scores are not used for admission purposes, only college credit.
UC’s are more about if you are qualified academically in handling the course work than trying to match applicants to the schools. Your essays and EC’s will help them understand you better and having major related EC’s does help. Much depends on how school admits by university, by specific college or by major.
You do realize this is a University of Michigan forum!
Similar to what the other poster has said, UCs are more inclined to choose applicants who can handle the rigor of their curricula. They won’t categorize applicants whether the applicants fit in their schools or not, that responsibility it up to the applicants. They make final decisions noting the information (about you / activities & ECAs) applicants provide in the UC app, but UCs won’t base the applicants’ personalities on which majors these applicants belong to.
@Alexandre
I just realized that after I pressed the submit button. & I am unsure about how to delete something. But thank you though
@Gumbymom yes I do have safety schools such as ucr, Fullerton and long beach.
But I just wanted to look forward for these higher colleges. Thank you!
