What Are My Chances?- University of Michigan

Hello all, I’m a New Jersey high school junior with the University of Michigan at the top of my high school list. I currently have a 4.1 gpa and am 31st as my class ranking (13%). I’ve taken a rigorous schedule, 8 honors, 3 APs in my 3 years of high school, and and intend to take additional difficult classes my senior year. I played 2 years of school soccer, and am involved in key club. Out of school, I coach youth basketball and have been a part of my hospital’s youth program for over 2 months, I hope to continue to and through senior year. I was wondering my chances at my #1 school, but am aware of its difficult admissions, so I’m not tunneled on it and am looking for other schools. Thanks!

You need to convert your grades to unweighted so A=4, B=3,etc for core classes only. Michigan doesn’t use weighted GPA. Also need your act /sat scores. Being OOS is very hard to admit. What will your major be? Michigan wants rigorous classes and doing well in them.

I mean, 3 APs is good but thats definitely below average for the typical Michigan admit. Take hard classes senior year, get a good ACT/SAT, and most importantly get involved in activities as much as you can. Also if youre applying LSA you have a much better chance than Ross or Engineering

I agree, I wish I could take more but our high school does not allow underclassmen to take AP courses, only 1 AP elective, so I do plan to take many more rigorous courses senior year. On the SAT topic, im yet to take it but I do get my PSAT scores back December 14th (I believe), so that will show my current state of scores. Thanks!

Thanks for the advice, I think my UW is a 3.61 which is definately low for their standards, but this school was a reach for me anyway. I was looking to major in bio, and have yet to take my SAT (but will get my PSAT scores back on December 14th I believe).
