@BKSquared thanks for the advice and the inspiring words, I was honestly just worried that the b’s I got in my first semesters would end up being a deal breaker no matter what I did. I will absolutely take what you said into account as I continue high school!
See how next year goes. You say you have a lot of B grades and a lot of your competition for a place like Harvard will have none. But the political internships are good for social sciences, including poli sci and govt. Alot of kids interested in those areas don’t get out and do that. The libarary is nice but I’d bet you already know it’s not challenging. Aim for some community work where you help the needy or get involved with advocacy (esp for the govt interest.) I do mean established adult groups- local causes, not some distant lands.
But you need an informed plan. Get the Fiske Guide and research what colleges say and show they look for. Do this looking and thinking and check back after first semester.
It’s good you’re looking ahead. But lots of colleges will have strong social sciences, you haven’t yet learned what those colleges are. It doesn’t need to be a tippy top. Sometimes more important than prestige is where you, as an individual, can be empowered.
thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it! previously, due to age restrictions I have not really been able to volunteer at shelters and the like, but as soon as I can I will (not just for college).
You can get involved with some meal sites, etc, through a local church. What you do doesn’t need to be on your own… just saying.
