I'm now a senior in high school. I want to major in "Computer Science" in college.I just recently took the SAT and scored a 1470. What are my chances of getting into some good colleges?

I’m going to assume this is just CR and math combined, otherwise if your definition of “good colleges” is Ivy League, MIT, Stanford, etc, you better start looking for a cure for cancer.

You need to list all of your other information: GPA (weighted and unweighted), class rank, ec’s, AP/IB courses taken, etc. Then it would also be helpful to list schools that you’re considering.

my gpa is = 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
SAT score = 1470
&
I haven’t taken any Ap courses

would like to go to a school in my state(Georgia).
reasons - In state tuition & they have the hope scholarship.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I’d say go for a community college education. After going there for two years, you can transfer into an amazing school! I’m not sure how they do it in Georgia, but here in California it’s a really common option. Going to community college doesn’t mean you’re stupid. You save lots of tuition money and gain valuable experiences. I suggest you consider it.

If your just interested in in-state schools, consider GaState, GaSouthern, West Georgia(I think thats the name), & Kennesaw State.

Is that a 1470/1600 or a 1470/2400?

The following schools in GA offer computer science (in order of prestige with Freshman Index Gacollege411.com):

Georgia Tech (3229)

Georgia Southern (2673)

Kennesaw State (2655)

Armstrong Atlantic State (2558)

Southern Poly (2722)

West Georgia (2510)

Mercer - Private

If it’s a 1470/1600, you’re not in at Georgia Tech with that GPA and no AP courses (not even wait listed). You’re a good match for all the other schools, though.

If it’s a 1470/2400, you’re a match for Armstrong Atlantic State and West Georgia, but none of the others. Kennesaw State and Georgia Southern are reaches, but not likely.

I think I’m going to take an SAT prep course and retake the SAT my senior year. I think I could have done better. It seemed like at the end of every section I had at least 4 to 5 more questions left.I had bad time management. I’m going to try to get my score up at least 200 points.

Also, I was looking at “Georgia State University”. I think I might apply there later.

Georgia State’s CS program isn’t accredited, but regardless…

You’re not getting into GSU with your current statistics. Assume you can’t really move your GPA (a 4.0 in Fall only brings you up by 0.1), you need about 300 points higher on your SAT to be competitive.

yeah, I guess I just have to see what I can get next time. If I can’t get high enough, I’ll try for Columbus state University…

You might want to also look into transfer agreements. Several of the state colleges feed into the research universities. For example, Armstrong Atlantic State feeds into Georgia Tech.

There’s no guarantee and you obviously have to work hard to earn a high GPA, but if you think that you are “better than your stats” (and many students are), that would be an excellent way to prove it.
