(All engineering)

I have pretty decent EC's with 10+ years of piano, president of two clubs/teams: math team and math honors society, some work experience during all three summers, passed first round of AMC 12 and got a 5 on the AIME, participated in chem, physics leagues with the team getting a rank near the top, took 8 aps - five 5's and two 4's and one 3. (all has to do with a science/math except for AP Chinese)

have a sorta bad sat of 2060 super score (cr/math/wr - 580/800/680)
have an act score composite of 32.
rank 13/~550 in a fairly competitive school (top 3%)
Taking all the ap/honors courses that I can take.
Weighted GPA of 4.594 (of the 4.6 scale) (Honors/AP gets +1 to grade; ex: A+ in non honors/ap = 4.6; A+ in honors/ap = 5.6)
Unweighted GPA of 4.0262 (4.6 scale)

if you guys could just put a yes, no, or maybe next to each school, that'd be really cool. I know some of those school are pretty far fetched, but let’s see how it goes.

that CR score will kill you, try to raise it

MIT high reach
Caltech high reach
Berkeley high reach (because you are OOS, if in state, it could be a high match)
Cooper Union high reach
Princeton high reach
Columbia high reach
Cornell reach
Carnegie Mellon low reach / high match (they will accept you if you pay full $$)
RPI match
Rutgers match
UMich match
UIll - Urbana Champaign match
GA-Tech match

MIT - potentially
Caltech - potentially
Berkeley - pretty good chances
Cooper Union - yes
Princeton - maybe
Columbia - maybe
Cornell - pretty high chances
Carnegie Mellon - yes
RPI - yes
Rutgers - yes
UMich - yes
UIll - Urbana Champaign - yes
GA-Tech - yes

I think you have pretty good chances for most of these; seems like you have a solid background out of school and in school. I think the SAT CR score and gpa would probably hurt you the most (depends upon exactly how competitive your high school is) but I think your SAT Math make up for a overall low score. Your APs and SAT IIs are also pretty good, and you seem to be showing a very strong math background all around. Your high school courses are pretty challenging too and factoring in the piano and work/volunteering, I’d think that you have high chances of getting into most of these (assuming that your recs and essays are pretty good too).

Thanks. I’m retaking SAT’s on 10/10. Hopefully I’ll hit a 650 at least in cr. I’m not so good at it =S. I’m pretty one sided. =[

bumppppppppppppppp

Just got back the score of my 2nd act test. first test was 29/35/27/36. second test is 34/34/28/31.

columbia, gatech, and mit superscores the act.

superscore would be 34/35/28/36. composite = 33

The SAT score is going to hinder your chances at a lot of the top schools you have listed. Anyway, heres my take:

MIT-reach
Caltech-reach
Berkeley-reach
Cooper Union-reach
Princeton-reach
Columbia-reach
Cornell-reach
Carnegie Mellon-high match
RPI-match
Rutgers-in
UMich-match
UIll-match
Ga Tech-match

Please chance me?

Would it be better if I don’t submit my SAT at all? My ACT scores are 29/35/27/36 (32 composite) and 34/34/28/31 (32 composite).

Man the reading score on your last ACT kills the CR in SAT, if you don’t do well on the SAT in Oct. then you should submit the ACT scores.

You really need to get CR at 700…drop everything you are doing for the next few weeks and get this done!~!!! What ever it takes, get CR to 700, when this is accomplished chances will be:

MIT - IN
Caltech IN
Berkeley IN
Cooper Union IN
Princeton reach
Columbia reach
