OK, so this is just a rough summary of my build so far (I'm a junior). What level of colleges do you think:

Are a reach, but I can entertain fantasies on
Are a reach, but possible
Are a strong possibility
Are likely options
Are safe options

GPA: 3.6 (it's a 3.45 thanks to freshman year, but let's say that I get a 3.6, based on my trends...yep, this is what might screw me)
GPA without freshman year or grade 8: 3.92 lol
SAT: 2250; 730 critical reading, 740 math, 780 writing, 8 essay (this is disappointing for me; I was passing 2300 on practice tests)
SSL Hours: >200
Credits: more than enough, plus at least two from Chinese school

IB Diploma
Important Classes:
IB Physics I/II
Pre-IB Chemistry
Pre-IB Biology
AP AB/BC Calculus (I'm hoping to skip to MV calc)
IB Spanish 1-6
(potentially more later)

AP's:
AP NSL (5)
AP US History (5)
AP AB Calculus (5)*
AP BC Calculus (5)*
AP Euro (5)*
AP Spanish (5)*
AP Physics (5)*
* Speculatively

SAT II's:
Math
Physics
Spanish
Chemistry
Biology
(this is all speculative)

Current and major EC's:
Debate team playoff contender (g 11)
Physics science fair 1st place (8)
Wushu bronze medalist (8)
Junior counselor at theater camp (summer 10-11)
Assistant chess teacher (8-9)
National Merit qualifier (11 - 230 PSAT)
Red cross club (10-presumably 12); I honestly haven't done much here yet, sadly)
Math Honors Society (11-12; I honestly haven't done much here yet, sadly)
I swim and play tennis, but am not on any teams; I also play the piano, but casually

I would really appreciate any advice.

Are a reach, but I can entertain fantasies on- Duke, WUSTL, Dartmouth
Are a reach, but possible- Emory, JHU, Middlebury
Are a strong possibility- GWU, Tulane, Colgate
Are likely options- American, Bucknell, Kenyon
Are safe options- Syracuse, Drexel, Franklin and Marshall

…ok, would it help if I said “chance me and I’ll chance back!”?

Preferably math or science related.

I completely understand your SAT disappointment, I’m in the same boat (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1435562-chances-yale-stanford.html), but I would say you should really look into schools with 15-20ish percent acceptance rates. Emory and Duke seem like definite possibilites to me. Chance me!

Chanced you, although IDK why you didn’t put your exact GPA up.

Uh, so on one hand, I have someone telling me that I could consider Duke or Emory, but on the other hand, I have someone telling me that these are reach schools.

Anyone else? xd

I realized that you have a lot of your activite/awards from 8th grade on there. Do colleges count that? but your academic half looks impressive, I have the same stats as you except for much less AP’S/IB’S. you have a good shot at the colleges listed above.

What about my low GPA?

I’ll just be incessant.

Are you a ■■■■■? I believe that score is impossible, since even if with a perfect multiple choice score, 8 on the essay will drop you down below 780.

Apparently not, unless if I misread (I haven’t gotten my comprehensive report yet, just the numbers).

What do you think my chances are for:

Carnegie Mellon
Brown
Cornell
Chicago

I’ll chance back XD

I would say you have great chances at Carnegie Mellon and UChicago. Brown and Cornell might be a bit of a reach just because they are Ivy. Definite chance if you apply to UChicago or either of the Ivies as ED. Good luck, looking really great for almost all schools except extremely high ivy/MIT!

Thanks. XD

I think this thread was too vague, so I made a more specific version - feel free to chance me here though.

chances at what school dude lol

buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmp

To be honest, you can’t speculate too much. I’m not doubting your academic abilities, but 5s all around on APs and 5 SAT IIs? There is a chance this might not happen. Along with this, your ECs are not very strong, things like qualifier and contender are not really big ticket items. Also, colleges don’t give a crap about 8th grade and if you jacked up in 9th grade, you cannot really hide that…

But you are obviously a good test taker, have a great courseload, and your GPA is pretty good. I would recommend working your butt off this year and getting more involved in ECs and community service. With that, I will say:

Strong possibilities: Carnegie Melon, Virginia Tech, some top state schools (University of California schools)
Fantasy: Cornell
Safe: some state schools
