Hey, I just wanted to know what my chances were for getting into a top 50 school. My two schools I would really like to get in are NYU and BU. My sat, I just re-took it this saturday I think I broke 2000. My GPA is not good at all 2.9. I messed up my junior year because I changed schools to a more academic school and the top 50 kids there all get into good schools like UNC and the top 10 get into ivys. I think I can pull my gpa up to a 3.0 or maybe 3.1. However My ec's I feel are pretty strong I have volunteered in africa for 3 weeks, as well as doing a ambassador trip to europe for 2 weeks. I have done page programs and leadership programs and volunteered at least 200 + hours. I'm also enrolled in the IB program, but my change to a different school messed me up. I don't know what you guys think. However I feel my recs will be good because the teachers I asked are well known for good recs.

You might get into by BU even with that GPA if you break 2000. NYU will be more challenging. I’m in a similar situation. My GPA is ~3.2 and I expect to get a similar SAT. And I plan on applying to both of those universities… Weird.

I’m really sorry, but that GPA needs to be way higher. Most college admissions officers state that personal qualities are not enough to make up for scores that are way below their schools’ ranges.

Yeah, thats ok hahaha I also forgot to mention I was asian which will lower my chances by like 500%. But what is considered way lower? like .4 gpa away from the recommend, or how much gpa away is a fail.

a 2.9 and a 2000 is way, way below the line for BU and light years away from NYU. You need to be looking at a different category of school.

BU: Reach
NYU: High Reach

I am in a similar situation with GPA, but I have a really high ACT. If you can raise your test scores, you might be in a little bit of better standings. It also doesn’t help that you are Asian with those stats. Regardless, I hope you get into BU!

Chance Back?

What is the weighted GPA? Or is that it?
