I am a senior in high school with a 3.94 GPA on a 4.0 scale. I am at the top percent tile of my class rank and have taken most of the offered honors/AP classes at my high school. I am president of the Senior Class and Drama Club and the historian of National Honor Society. I am a member of the French Club, CSF, GATE, Community Service Club. I am also the Varsity Boys and Girls tennis team manager, have community service hours, and extracurricular activities. However, my SAT scores are not very high [Reading: 520, Math: 550, Writing: 520] My friend told me not to worry about my SAT scores affecting my chances of getting into a college of my choice because of my GPA, the clubs I've joined, the leadership positions I've held, and the community services hours I have done. Is that true? Or should I be worried about not getting accepted into one of the college of my choice? (Syracuse, NYU, Boston University, USC)

Should I be afraid because of my SAT scores? That's basically my main concern. If my SAT would lower my chances of getting into a good college.

To be honest, your low SAT scores are REALLY going to hurt you. Pick up "A is for Admission", a book by a Dartmouth admissions officer. I know you're not applying to any Ivy League schools, but, you're applying to some really selective ones and they probably use the Academic Index which accounts for about 75% of your likelihood of admissions. Of that, about 60 % is made of your SAT I and II scores. Basically, though colleges don't admit it, SAT scores are very important and if you don't have good ones, you're screwed. Try to find some safety schools, but try for the ones you want also.
