what are my chances?

Hello. guys!

I hope you guys to tell my chances.

I am bon jun from south korea.

I am a girl who prepares universities in U.S.A

My school is Korea Science Academy.

My average GPA from 9th ~12th is 3.87/4.00

My SAT (oct.2005) is M 760 W 700 R 670 so sum is 2130

My SAT subject tests scores are

Biology m 780
Physics 800
Math2c 800
chemistry 800

My AP scores (may 2005)
Biology 5/ Calculus BC(AB*) 5(5)/
Physics C Mech 5/ Physics C E&M 5
Chemistry 5/ Macroeconomics 4/ Microeconomics 5

I did volunteer works at hospital, orphages, and braille library

and some extraactivity in Korean Traditional Music Band/ korean flute club/
Taekwondo club and Red Cross Youth.

I applied Stanford for my early

and I will apply Chicago/ M.I.T./ Caltech/ Harvard/ Princeton/ Cornell/

U.C.Berkeley and some more...

Thank you.

why are you applying to chiacgo u, cornell and princeton?
seems like youre interested in going into engineering

i think you have a great shot at getting in all of them

Hmm

your writing in this post, and your writing and reading score in SAT I

really don't match.

how did you manage to get a high score? (no offense, just curious)

with your stats, you have decent chances,

but SAT I is kind of low for Harvard

bonjunkoo:

UCB: Match (out of state)

I know my SAT1 scores are low for harvard ....I will take one more

in november.

But to me, science is easier than english- you know?

My mother tongue is Korean... I started learning english 5years ago.

Standardized tests are easy to get high scores

to me, TV-series Friends is more difficult to understand than SAT passage.

Can you understand what I mean?

Thanks for replying.

not really ...

I'm pretty sure Cornell has an excellent engineering school. They apparently have the best engineering program in the Ivy League, and that's gotta be worth something!

I get what your saying.

To be honest, kids over in korea probably know english grammer two times as much as US born and raised kids.

They just drill the sat's a ton, to the point where they can get a high score without actually being.....colloquial.

Are you applying as an international?

I don't know much, but from seeing other international students applying.....and seeing thier stats......it would seem you have very slim chances

^ YOu know. That isn't a lie. I have a cousin in Korea and man, even though english isn't his first language, he busts 150 vocab words a day and finished numerous grammar and writing books. He can't really speak english, but this guy's writing abilities are far greater than mine and he took a practice SAT test and got a 2350. Yea it is believable your english score is so high.

I meant that I don't know much about college admissions enough to tell him about your chances, but I know that his sat scores are believable.

I was at korea this past summer.....man.....the work ethic is amazing. Not to mention the competition.

Heres some real life advice. I would do some more research in your colleges. I know "harvard" is the only college you guys think about in korea, but to be honest, it isnt the best choice for many people. Try to find a college that fits YOU, not just HYPS. I know how important impressing the parents is in korea.......i'm korean. Its bad in the US too.

Heres a story. My friend was in the same situation you are in, but in the states. English wasn't his best subject, but he had the most amazing work ethic EVER. I dont understand how he functioned with the amount of sleep he was getting. Anyway, come senior year, he was accepted to the college of his dreams, an ivy league.

His parents have been telling us.....they are so worried about him. Apparently hard work isnt enough in a college at that level. This kid is getting torn apart......competition, english, etc

Lesson from story: pick a good college that fits you.

.. i think 5 years of english is enough for understanding "friends"..
anyway were you in a School for science in Korea?
isn't all the ppl there suppose to be uber smart with 2400 sats??
