What are my chances?

I was wondering what my chances are at getting into UGA.

GPA Unweighted: 3.47
GPA Weighted: 3.65
SAT Score: 1990 (700 Math, 650 Writing, 640 Reading)
ACT Score: Taking it in June, expecting a 28+

of AP Classes: 6

3 years of Foreign Language (Spanish I-III)
I will also be taking Georgia Tech Distance Calculus and College level English next year.

EC's:
President of 121 Reach Club
Member of BETA and Spanish Club (4 years each)
Member of DECA and FCA (4 years)
Member of Junior Civitans (2 years)
Class Council Representative
1 year of Work Experience
100+ hours of Community Service
Honorary Recognition for Mathematics

I have taken mostly AP and honor's courses throughout my high school career.

dont worry about it. you should do ea so that you dont have to do essays. uga is almost a safety for you. look into other schools for reaches. but you should raise your test scores.

I think you have a solid chance, but saying “safety” is not quite true. Your GPA falls below the bottom 25% for last year’s class, and you should keep in mind that UGA considers GPA more important than SAT/ACT scores. Your test scores are fine (well above average for UGA) but you’d be a very strong candidate if you could raise your GPA another .1 or .2. Since you might fall on the borderline, your course rigor will definitely work in your favor. Hope this helps, and best of luck in the admissions process.

P.S. I’d also encourage you to apply EA, but realistically you should be prepared to expect a deferral to RD given your GPA. Your ECs sound strong, so I think the RD essays would also work in your favor.

just raise your uw gpa to 3.5 and above. there are a lot of people from my school who get into uga with your kind of stats. I also know a person who got a 70 in ap chem and still got in but he was a legacy so…

ilikepizza: I suggest you review the top myths at UGA, A Few First Year Applicant FAQ's - UGA Undergraduate Admissions, as legacy is not a factor (among other non-factors that people believe really are).

GT also claims that legacy has no role on admissions, but GT has an entirely separate admissions category (called “Conditional Admission”) for legacies and children of large donors.

They say that a Conditional Admission (guaranteed transfer admission after a year at another college) is not the same as influencing admissions because GT still considers it a rejection; however, it’s an opportunity not afforded to non-legacies and children of non-donors, so clearly being a legacy does play a role in how the school treats you (they don’t want your parents to stop donating).

UGA doesn’t consider legacy status in new or transfer admissions.

^no way he could have gotten in without legacy. he had barely a 3.0 and mediocre ecs. that 70 in ap chem includes the extra points my school give when you take ap. i read his essays and they werent that outstanding. he is not even a honor grad. unless thats what most students are like at uga, legacy definitely helped. he is white and uper middle class so no financial aid (dont know if that matters)

That is a pretty big assumption/logic jump to determine that it must be legacy just because he was admitted and was not the strongest applicant, especially considering all of the legacy applicants that apply every year (admitted and denied), and that UGA states they do not use legacy in admissions.
