What are my chances?

I'd love to go to CU Boulder, but I'm not quite sure my stats will allow me. I'd like to study physics, particle physics specifically.

GPA (unweighted): 2.6
SAT: 2130

My extracurricular activities are almost nonexistent save for Boy Scouts and a couple international school tours. I'm also an out-of-state student.

Your GPA is your biggest hurdle but it’s not insurmountable. Here are the stats for this fall’s entering class (middle 50%):

Good luck in your college search endeavors!!!

Im sure you’ll get in. Schools accept as many as they can so you pay them money.

While CU does indeed value its OOS premium paying students, I’d guess that 2.6 GPA will be a problem. CU considers mainly GPA and test scores (so the lack of ECs is no biggie). I don’t know if they vary admissions criteria based on intended majors; if so, a C+ average in HS does not bode well for a hard-core field like physics. Perhaps your weighted GPA is much higher; perhaps there is some explanation for the poor grades. In any case, you should have a conversation with your regional CU admission advisor.
