What are my chances?

"everyone having one thing in a common: a passion for math, science, and technology."

I just hope that shows through on my application.

i don't get how you got 1540 and then a 2080. weird. 770 v to a 650v.

but it looks pretty good. GPA/SAT matters most and you are pretty solid.

It's the analogies! I loved the analogies! But now they're replaced by killer passages. The new essays are lame too. CB basically forces you to adopt one of two different opinions.

haha. but i like the passages. is there anyway you can submit your old SAT?

Actually, CB submits all of my scores, old and new. I think only Caltech considers the old one, so my chances aren't any better.

Can anyone tell me my chances or any instate schools that I would have shot at?

everything is reach

-_- Everything? I have ELC into UCI.

Would they be a far reach or a slight reach? I can't see what's wrong with my stats except my SAT and maybe my hours.

What at all is wrong with your SAT scores? You got a 1540 on the old SAT and most schools this year are taking the higher of the two and your SAT IIs are fantastic so don't complain. I know plenty plenty of people who have gone to ivies with scores less than that, if anything it's your gpa that would hold you back, but the scores are pretty awesome

I wasn't "complaining," I was just trying to mention the fact that my scores dropped tremendously from the old to the new.

"most schools this year are taking the higher of the two": Which school is this?

Most top schools, as long as you've taken SAT II Writing. You'd have to check individually (maybe someone can link you to that site that links them all but I've forgotten it). The only ones that come to mind that don't mix and match are the UC's.

So basically these colleges would take the higher score from the new SAT and the old one plus the SAT II: Writing?

If so, YESSSSSSSSSSSSS! Someone must hook me up with this list! =]

fizz: why would a 4.4 w and a 3.97 uw hold anyone back? i don't get it.

for5aken, you should really calm down, you have great stats. and it's not like if someone on cc says something is a total reach that you're not going to apply to it right?

Stanford takes the highest scores, regardless of old or new

Hmm I'm sorry I guess i read it wrong, I missed the unweighted gpa. At my school a weighted 4.4 would be a little low for the top schools

You definitely need more extracurriculars and awards. Your volunteer hours are not significant either. And also, you're Chinese, like me, so that's pretty hard because you're competing against all the other asians who have the same stats and academic strengths.. which means you really should have more ECs.

Actually, I do have a lot more, but those are the only one's that I listed on my apps. The rest are a bunch of meaningless clubs (i.e. Fishing, Computer, French [I don't even speak French], etc.) Other than that, I don't have much more activities.

I've calmed down now. It was all those deadlines and essays that stressed me out and got me worried. I'm probably going to apply to Stanford and leave it at that. Anyways, thanks to everyone who answered!

you kidding me? UCB you say is safety match>?? damn dude Berk average SAT score this yr is above 2100 dude

I know this topic is old, but I just got March anxiety. Could someone figure out my chances for a scholarship at UCSD? Another opinion on the other schools would be great too! (I'm already in at USC and UCI, FYI)
