What are my chances?

SAT I (breakdown): Didn’t submit
ACT: 30 (English 99th percentile, math 93rd, science 91st, can’t remember reading)
SAT II: Aren’t required, because I am submitting ACT scores
Course Rigor: Taken the hardest classes I can..more credits than I need
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 90/100, which concerns me. I am a private school and our GPA’s are known to be way lower than the GPA’s of public school students..So if it was to translate to a public school GPA, I would say it would be about a 3.8. I get mostly A’s.
AP (place score in parenthesis): School doesn’t offer APs, but I took one AP test randomly..English Language and got a 4
IB (place score in parenthesis): Not offered..
Senior Year Course Load: Field Biology, Honors Spanish 5, Honors Calculus, Honors Stats, Honors English, Theology, Yearbook, Art class..
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Always on the honor roll?
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):
Yearbook all four years (2 years as assistant Editor and Editor in Chief senior year)
Varsity Soccer Team all four years (varsity letter)
Literary Magazine 3 years (editor of layout; helped form it my sophomore year)
Job/Work Experience: Babysit most Friday and Saturday nights
Volunteer/Community service:
Writing Center 2 years (Nominated to create the center and be a tutor)
Assistant coach at Rainbow Soccer
Summer Activities:
Spent summers in Ireland
Essays: I really liked my essay and so did everyone who read it. I talked about my cultural background.
Interview: My Duke interviewer said that she has nothing to with admissions but she did and really wants to see me at Duke?
Teacher Recommendation: My teachers love me…
Counselor Rec: I’m sure it was great..
Applied for Financial Aid?: Nope!
Intended Major: Pre-med
State (if domestic applicant): North Carolina
Ethnicity: White as white can get…but not American. Half Irish and Half South African
Gender: Female
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): First in family to go to college in the US, dad has a big job at Duke, not American
Strengths: none..I feel average
Weaknesses: GPA, scores
Where I am applying: Duke-Ed
UNC-Ch
Wake Forest
Elon
Davidson
UVA
William and Mary
Washington and Lee
University of Richmond

Duke: Since your dad works there, that could be a boost. still a reach with only a 30 on the ACT
UNC-if you were out of state, id say you are a reach, but since you are in state, im not sure.
Wake-high match
Elon-safety
Davidson- a bit of a reach
UVA-a bit of a reach as well
W&M- high match/low reach
W&L - match
Richmond - high match
good luck and chance back please!!

UNC-match
Wake-match
Elon safety
Davidson low reach
UVa low reach
WandM unsure
Wand L unsure
Richmond Match

and Duke? That’s what I am most anxious about…

Duke-Ed-reach
UNC-Ch-high match
Wake Forest-high match
Elon-low match
Davidson-idk
UVA-reach
William and Mary-reach
Washington and Lee-reach
University of Richmond-high match

We don’t know if your father can get you in. If he’s a top administrator or Nobel prize winning prof they want to keep at all costs, you should get in. If he’s a run of the mill prof you’d probably need higher stats. He can talk to admissions about how they treat staff kids. They’ll give him an honest answer about how much of a boost you’ll get.

I’m soooo nervous!!

The reaches you will have are Duke, UVA, W&M, and Washington.
You have a good shot at most of these though. Good luck and ty for chancing :)

Duke-Ed - reach
UNC-Ch - match
Wake Forest -high match
Davidson-reach
UVA-low reach
William and Mary-match
Some of the colleges, I omitted because I wasn’t sure what their stats were and I didn’t want to give you false hope/false anger (?)!

Bumpity-bump-bump!

Considering Duke’s middle 50% for the ACT is 29/30-34 (I’ve seen both), I think Duke is a low match, rather than a reach.
UNC - match
Wake Forest - high match
Davidson - comfortable match
UVA - Comfortable match
William and Mary - match

Your extracurriculars could be beefed up, but, based on your ACT, you stand a reasonably solid chance at many of your schools.

Bumpity-bump-bump!

Your main concern is Duke right?
Duke takes ACT between 29-34, so I’d say maybeeee.
If you took hard classes that will boost you up.
GPA is good. Your out of school activities seem great, which all colleges love!!
Your teacher rec’s will help since they love you :stuck_out_tongue:
Don’t feel that just cause you might not match up to their “average” you own’t get in because they accept under and above. But, they have a 22% acceptance rate…
Did you apply EA by any chance?

The reaches you will have are Duke, UVA, W&M, and Washington. Tough schools to get into no matter what you have going for you…wish you the best of luck tho!

Early Decision  And I took the hardest courses possible, often doubling up in subjects…

Maybe that will boost your chances!!

I think it helps a ton!

Sent from my ADR6300 using CC App

I think because of your low gpa combined with a bit below average ACT score it might be tough…
Although the fact that your dad is on staff is something I wouldn’t know how to factor in, it may be a very big advantage (who knows!)
If that is the case then you surely have a great chance, otherwise I’m not so sure
Also, What exactly did you mean on the ED Class of 2016 page about hearing by monday? (I’m an ED-er myself and so nervous ahh!)
Good luck! I know how nerve racking it all is and I hope things work out for you :D

I am completely worried about my GPA too…grrrrr…hahaha, I just called and asked, but someone else told me that when they called they heard it hasn’t been decided yet. so we will see. If you don’t mind sharing…What are your stats like?

Duke-Ed- good chance between your ED and father (not to mention your obvious credentials)
UNC-Ch- In-State, Good all around (I’d say you’re in)
Wake Forest- fair chances
Elon- safety for you
Davidson- fair chances
UVA- might be a little tough given you’re from the South, but you’re a good candidate
William and Mary- same as UVA (chances slightly better)
Washington and Lee- good chance
University of Richmond- good chance

Your list looks great! Good luck-- even with your concerns about your GPA, I think many of your schools are familiar with private grading systems. You’ll have an awesome place to go next year no matter what!
