I have my eye set on West Point, and I was wondering what my chances are in getting into the the academy and what I might need to improve on. Here is my Profile. I am a Caucasian junior that goes to a small high school (400 students) in Michigan. As far as academics are concerned, I have a 3.8 GPA taking AP Algebra II and English and I am in the top 10% of my class. I received a cumulative score of 28 on the ACT. I am a member of NHS and Ambassadors of Goodwill. I also tutor after school, and run a program called A's for Athletes (A tutoring program that helps students that participate in Sports). I also am going through the process of getting a volunteering position at my district representative's office. I have participated in both Cross Country and Track & Field while earning Varsity letters since my freshman year. I have received 2nd team all Conference in Cross Country and placed 16 out of 100+ runners at regionals this past season. I believe I have a good chance at becoming Captain in both sports next year. Any advice or comments are appreciated.

It sure sounds like you have all the makings for a good Candidate, but you will definately need a bit more to become a great Candidate. Only a few extra extracurriculars, clubs, sports, leadership roles, and a high SAT and/or ACT score is what sets a Wait Lister apart from a Appointee. Also you will need a Nomination; this allows a Service Academy to appoint you. This can be obtained from your Senators, Congressman, the President, and also many Service-Related options (i.e. Parent has a Medal of Honor, JROTC Honor Unit with Distionction, Parents in the military).

Good luck in you endeavors.

I will take that advice to heart. So I may prepare my plan B, what is the usual course of action for someone that has been wait listed?
