What are my chances??

Right now I'm a junior at a pretty competitive high school in the northeast. My gpa is about a 95.5 (so i guess that's still a 4.0)? But I'm not really sure becuase my school only does numbers. I have a sibling at penn, and I have a 2320 on my SATs. the breakdown is 800 writing, 800 reading, and 720 math. I've taken almost all the hardest classes throughout high school except AP Chem. I'm an officer of model UN, hopefully going to be editor in chief of my school newspaper next year (if not just editor of a section), the captain of moot court, and officer of student congress. i've gone on a bunch of habitat for humanities, and i have over 140 hours of comm serv and counting. I also do research at my school and have won three awards for that in the past. I'm not sure if my gpa is a little low for penn. I've heard they take out all classes except for the main 5, and if so, I think my gpa would be a little lower. My research teacher gives me very high grades, so i think that may inflate it a bit. do penn/the other ivies do that? but i mean i don't really take any bullsh** classes. my electives are like ap psych, ap stat, etc. oh yea ill be graduating with 11 AP's. ive gotten all 5's and one 4 on the ones i've taken so far. I got a 720 on my ap bio SAT II as a freshman, but I'm going to take it again this year cuz im in AP bio and hpoefully do better. I'm also goign to take the math and american SAT II at the end of the year. how do I look as a candidate for penn, columbia, or brown? i really like penn right now, but I need to tour the other schools as well. I'm shooting for that range of schools though.

I think you have a good shot from what I have seen looking around other threads. Your GPA is solid though I’m used to weighted and unweighted on a 4.0 scale so judging yours is hard. Class rigor is a big factor so taking hard classes like you have done so far is a big plus. Your EC’s sound solid but nothing spectacular that is far above the rest. SAT scores are also helpful. Is your score one sitting or superscored? The research will look great, I’m assuming your majoring in the sciences. I’d say you have a decent shot at all the schools you are looking at. Keep doing what your doing and you can go far. Good luck.

thanks for the reply. i only took the SAT once. does that make a difference??

Hi Dayy,

That’s a fantastic score! Good job. Although we can only say that 3+ test-taking might be detrimental, for your one-shot deal, it surely won’t hurt your candidacy.

"We do expect that many students will have a higher composite during one sitting, with an individual score on one of the three sections higher from another administration. Again, Penn will take the highest of any individual scores from any administration.

Furthermore, if the new Score-Use policy creates behavior that may be unproductive, like taking the test at an earlier stage and taking the test more than 3 times, the Admissions Committee can benefit from that information. And if students know that some schools will ask for all the tests, this behavior may be discouraged. "
