Hi I'm a rising senior and will be applying to schools this coming fall.

After visiting University of Michigan it is without a doubt my dream school. My aunt went their for grad school and lives near the school. (Don't know if that helps me)

I know my gpa is very low but if I do work hard and get my sat up to a 2100 can i get in with everything else the way it is? And please be HONEST!!

You took both AB and BC, and Physics B and C? Why?

Since you are OOS with no real hooks, and you don’t have really awesome test scores or GPA, I would have to be on you not getting in. There’s a chance, but not a big one.

Show a lot of GPA improvement in your senior year, raise the SAT score a couple hundred points, and take the ACT, because maybe you’ll do well on it and you can send both your SAT and ACT scores in which looks good if you do well on both. Send in your Physics SAT II because it’s good, and try to get one more 700+ on another SAT II. Write some bomb-ass essays for the application. Do all or almost all of these things and you should have a chance. As everything stands now, I think you’d be unlikely to get in.

Check your Naviance from the last admissions year; that will be your best gauge…some NJ high schools have better admissions results at UMich than others…

Colleges generally recognize that if you go to a private school rather than public, chances are the coursework as a whole is more difficult or that the competition is greater. For public schools, they usually know which are the tough ones.

Okay i’ve been studying for the sat since the summer began(scores up to 2100) and if u recommend taking the act… do i just take it or do i have to do act specific review?

I never took any ACT-specific review and still did just about as well relatively speaking as I did on the SAT, which I did take a short class and a few practice exams for. They’re not identical but they’re similar enough to the point where studying for one of them should be enough to do well on both.

Unbelievable. That was a completely unnecessary explanation for your Critical Reading score…

Anyway, a potential increase of 200 points on your SAT isn’t going to make your application THAT much better so that you get accepted, but it would definitely help. Put time into writing a great essay rather than go all-out on studying,

K thanks, more of a general question: Are the October SAT scores good for Early Action? B/c for some schools the date is 11/1 and the scores are released 10/26.
