Public universities are numbers driven and all the stuff about essays and EC's usually means a lot less. The 50% SAT ranges for San Diego State Univ are Math 490-600 and Verbal 480-580. I would say that it is definitely a strong match and probably even a safety.

Not being in-state usually hurts you because the state legislatures usually specify that the college must have 70% in-state students. This is a real killer for out-of-state applicants at places at UVA and UNC-Chapel Hill, but probably less of a problem at SDSU.

his sdsu eligibility index is 3600. the in-state cutoff was like 3680 last year. its definitely not a safety, or a match.

I guess I don't know much about the CA system. The SAT scores are at the high end. The OP is out-of-state, but the school should view this favorably since it is 93% in-state. I checked this:

The admissions process seems to be completely automated based ENTIRELY on gpa and test scores. Two questions: Are they using weighted/unweighted gpa's? If they are apparently assuming that gpa's from all CA schools are on the same scale, how do they handle gpa's from private high schools and out-of-state high schools and home-schooled applicants?
