What are my chances!? =(

Hey everyone,

I am a senior, class of 2013.

I have already applied to UCs and University of Washington

GPA: 3.25 unweighted, 3.5 UC GPA
(1 D first semester of AP Calculus, but C second semester to "fix" it.)
APs: Calculus AB 1, Chemistry 1, Language and Composition 3 (Bad :()
ACT: 27 (28,27,24,28) Writing/English: 26 (Just took it once in Dec., should've took ACTs instead of SATs)
SAT: 1670 (510 CR, 650 M, 510 W) (Took it 3 times, got the same score twice.)
SAT Subject Tests: Math 2 610, Chinese 790, Biology 520, Chemistry 490

Current Senior Course Load:
AP Statistics B
Chinese 5 A
Expository Writing A
American Democracy A or B
AP Psychology B
Physics A

Extracurricular Activities:
Fitness Club 1 Year. Member.
Book Club 2 Years. Member.

Wrote about how volunteering influenced me to pursue accountancy and how I like to help people.

Wrote about my job at Safeway. My initial reason for taking the job was to gain job experience and to repay my parents back for my ONE at fault automobile accident. Later, I realized it taught me to be patient and less temperamental.

Outstanding Circumstances:
First Generation American & First Generation College Student.

What are my chances at getting into the following schools?
UC Berkeley
UC Los Angeles
UC San Diego
UC Davis
UC Irvine
UC Santa Barbara (my goal & dream)
UC Santa Cruz
UC Riverside
UC Merced
CSU Northridge
Cal Poly SLO
University of Washington
University of Illinois Champaign Urbana
NYU
USC
Ohio State

I know a lot of these schools are high reach schools for me, but I still applied/am applying just to see if my outside school activities could help me out. I didn't give any excuse for my D in Calculus, because I felt that excuses make me look terribly bad. My grades improved from Freshman to Sophomore year, but my Junior year was complete ****. To my surprise, I had a good unweighted 3.8 until my Junior year. My reason for low grades, that I did not tell UCs or UDub, was that I was involved in car accidents every 3 or 4 months. As a 17 year old, that's not very ironic, but all of them but one was my fault.

Be honest with me, I take harsh criticisms well!

Oh and Indiana University Bloomingfield as well!

Bump !

Berkeley, UCLA, and BYU all seem a bit unrealistic due to your GPA/scores. Sorry I can’t speak to the other schools.

I’m also a senior waiting on my UC decisions and speaking from hours of reading CC posts so… feel free to take my advice with a grain of salt.

Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, NYU, and USC are all reaches.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on one’s stats) UC’s place the most emphasis on GPA and SAT scores. I’ve had people from my school who did minimal to no extra curriculars but had 4.5’s, took a crazy number of AP classes, and had 2100’s and up on their SAT’s that got in to all the UC’s without question. Private schools (not the ivies) are much more kind to abundant extra-curriculars and community service in light of a not so great GPA.

So, assuming you’re an in-state applicant, you’re still below average on UCD, UCI, and UCSB, but I’ve seen people with stats like yours get lucky. UCSC, UCR, and UCM – you should be fine.

I don’t know enough about Cal Poly SLO, University of Illinois Champaign Urbana, Ohio State.

Good luck! Your essays will definitely help you out.

Thanks for the honest input and opinions!

I hope to get more opinions because I honestly never seen a person on CC with such low stats, well relatively low at least. With that being said, I really have no one to compare to haha.

Well. You’ll definitely get into The bottom ranked UC’s such as Riverside, Merced, Santa Cruz. Irvine and Santa Barbra are reaches… and for your top UC’s… sorry to bring it to you, unless you write a GOOD personal statement, you’re most likely not going to get in. Like the other person said, UC’s focus only on SAT and GPA so… but dw. I’m pretty sure I’ll probably get into U. of Washington. Good luck!
Can you chance me pleaseeee?

Chanced you sir.

Bump !

You MIGHT have a chance at Ohio State. UIUC is a bit of a stretch.

Thanks for the reply!

Hope to get more chances for UCs! Planning on just going to a cc then transfer into a UC later on if I can’t get into a mid tier UC.

Moar bumpppppppys.

Bump it uppppp!

Your community service hours are amazing! I’m a hs senior UC applicant also and you’re applying to all the schools I applied to! lol Even though you don’t have the best GPA, you have a good chance at Santa Barbara, Irvine, and even the higher UC schools such as Berkeley/LA, if your essays are very stellar and unique. You also have good chances at those schools because of your community involvement, and many schools look at community service hours. Sorry I can’t speak for the other schools but good luck and I hope you get into Santa Barbara! I had a friend who went to Santa Barbara last year and it was his dream school as well. :-)

I’m also applying to USC with good scores but a very good GPA. Their admission standards are pretty holistic. Looking at past stats, a lot of admits have diverse stats, so it’s hard to predict admission. Good luck to both of us! :-)

I think that you can get into UW UCR UM. But a little piece of advice? Do not apply to so many colleges. I did the same thing as you (I applied to 10) because I didn’t think I would get into any because of my low stats. I’m assuming you did because of the same reason? In the end I got into my top college and I definitely regret applying to three of the colleges I applied to because I know that there’s no way I would go there even if I got in. Save some money and only apply to colleges you know you will go to. :)

UC Berkeley- Very Unlikely
UC Los Angeles - Very Unlikely
UC San Diego- Unlikely
UC Davis- Moderate
UC Irvine- Moderate
UC Santa Barbara (my goal & dream)-Moderate
UC Santa Cruz- Fairly high
UC Riverside -Acceptance is imminent
UC Merced- Acceptance is imminent
CSU Northridge- Don’t even give it a second thought, you’ll get in
Cal Poly SLO- Moderate
University of Washington-Moderate
University of Illinois Champaign Urbana-Moderate
NYU- Unlikely
USC- Very Unlikely
Ohio State- Likely

@Curious Thanks haha, good luck to you as well!

@lauren933 I was going to give UCLA and Cal a shot, just for the heck of it, and Riverside and Merced just so I don’t look so bad and not get into a UC at all. Thanks for the chance!

@Nathanie Thanks for the chance!

All of you guys give me some hope for my dream school ! =)

More chances will be appreciated of course! Thanks in advance.

UCSB-still possible
UCR-match
UCSC-match
UCM-match
CSUN-definite match
chance me?

I would say somehwere between a match for all of the UC’s excpet UCB, UCLA, and UCSD, which I would give a low match to UCSD and UCLA and a slight reach to UCB.

NYU- low match/slight reach
Cal Poly- low match
USC- low match

I’d give you a match for all the other schools, you have a pretty good shot at those ones :)

Chance me?
