What are my chances?

Hey everyone!

I'd just like to know what are my chances of getting into Rutgers New Brunswick? I applied back in late november (25-30) to the school of arts and sciences as well as the business school. I'm getting a bit worried that I haven't heard back.

RU Essay: I thought it was pretty solid.

SAT: 1900
M-640
W-640
CR-620

Academics:
I go to a very competitive public high school (instate). My freshman gpa (2.85) isn't great due to illness but the following years my weighted gpa has been a 3.5-3.6. I've taken several APs in both math, history, and economics. There aren't any honors classes or rankings at my school (idk if that's a plus or minus).

Extracurriculars/Employment:
Singing - Private and in school
Piano - Private
Photography
Lead school community service group (2 yrs)
Model UN - 3yrs
Head high school tour guide
School newspaper business manager
Employment every high school summer break

What are my chances? It's been a bit over a month and I'm getting worried.

Thanks,

You have a really good chance, you will probably hear back very soon

both SAS and the Business School?

Basically here’s the rundown:

Rutgers will respond instantly (by that I mean in a couple weeks) if your GPA is well over 3.7; Otherwise, a response will take approximately 4-8 weeks (apparently this year they’re slightly under staffed). Along with that, there’s a difference in GPA requirement per SAS and SEBS and RBS.

SAS (School of Arts and Sciences) MINIMUM GPA is 3.5 (though students with 3.2 have been accepted, because this “school” is a lot more lenient on GPA).

SEBS or RBS (School of Environmental and Bio Science or Rutgers Business School) both require (and this is MANDATORY) a GPA of 3.6 to get accepted, unless of course they don’t reach their “quota” per se, then they’ll lower the requirement, but they’ll keep an eye on the lower level students to make sure they can keep up a certain GPA (varies on intended major).

Extra circulars (unless sports) don’t entirely play huge roles at Rutgers, though they do aid you a tad bit, not as much as higher level schools.

Actually, I was accepted into SEBS in December with an 85 GPA, I’m pretty sure that’s a 3.0.

Where did you get that information?

Have to disagree with kivanov. Looking at Rutgers’ own published stats from admitted students, the order of admissions requirements starting with the most stringent to less is as follows:

Ernest Mario
Engineering
Business
SAS
SEBS

(not including Mason Gross because that’s a whole different animal)

These GPA cutoffs are quite arbitrary and there is really no way of knowing exactly how the admissions people make these decisions. In general, the most qualified applicants (SATs and GPAs at the top of the applicant class) are notified first. Then the applicants with more average stats and so on until the class is filled. With an SAT of 1900, you are pretty much a bit above the average for the applicants to the schools you applied to, so I wouldn’t be too worried. Remember that Rutgers extended application deadlines due to Sandy and lost an entire work week, so the entire process has been delayed a bit.

Hey guys,

I just got accepted into SAS. Still in process for RU Business.

Congratulations! You should hear back from business pretty soon too i think.

Yeah I was accepted into SAS/SEBS together, then just an hour or two later RBS turned into accepted as well.
