So here is my academic history:

GPA including freshman year: 3.57 unweighted / 4.132 weighted
GPA of Sophmore and Junior year: 3.68 unweighted/ 4.62 weighted

The reason my freshman year gpa is so low is that my father became ill with cancer and passed away during freshman year.

My class has about 60 kids, and I am ranked probably 2nd or 3rd.

SAT: 2310, 800 math/750 CR/ 760 Writing

I have taken every AP/honors course my school has offered(they offered none freshman year). I am part of FBLA, STEM, music ensemble, play classical guitar. I took a computer science course at Johns Hopkins during the summer, and had a paid internship at City of Hope researching cancer.

My question is what are my chances of getting into my top schools which are (in some general order):

Princeton- My dad went here for graduate school
Harvard
Yale- My dad went here for undergrad
Stanford
UPENN
Columbia
Cornell
NYU
UCLA- my dad was a tenured professor here
University of Chicago- my mom went here
UC berkeley

Your GPA is probably too low for HYPS/similar. However your ECs seem pretty stellar so that might make up for it. DK if you’re in state or not for cali. Either way, it doesn’t seem like you have any matches or fallbacks.

I live in california, also Im a white male

you think NYU and Berkeley are reach schools?

bumpity bumpity bump

can someone please help me?

Dont worry about ur UW gpa, its class rigor and rank that does matter, if you are 2/60, u wont get rejected for GPA

your SAT1 is good enough for all schools, so you won’t get rejected for SAT1

Try to take few SAT2s and score well on them, than you will be done for Standardized tests.

But to go to top schools, you need good essays, recommendations and ECs. Since you have time, try to improve on other parts of app as possible and then you have good shot.

Princeton- My dad went here for graduate school - Reach for everyone (legacy might help)
Harvard - Reach for everyone
Yale- My dad went here for undergrad - Reach for everyone (legacy might help)
Stanford - Reach for everyone
UPENN - Maybe low reach?
Columbia - Same as Penn
Cornell - Possibly high match or match
NYU - Safety
UCLA- my dad was a tenured professor here - safety
University of Chicago- my mom went here - Reach for everyone (again, legacy might help)
UC berkeley - Match

thank you so much nirvana. I plan to take math and us history SAT IIs. I believe I can get an 800 on the math sat and 750+ on the history. As for the essay, nearly every adult in my extended family has a PHD/MD and are fantastic writers so I think I will have a good essay with their help. As for recommendations, my teachers tend to dislike me, so I will work hard on improving my relationship with them. Lastly, for ECs, what would you recommend?

ps. i forgot to mention i volunteer an hour a week in a big brother program in my community and reading program at a public elementary school
