applying to Cornell,Princeton, Harvard, MIT

cool
but its better to decide after your SAT I scores come up!!

cool
but its better to decide after your SAT I scores come up!!

what do you intend on majoring in major?

Engineering preferably electrical and electronics engineering

What are your grades? Plus universities only care about what you've done in sec 3, sec 4, jc1 and jc2. The rest is extraneous.

Your SAT scores are very good though, however you better write kick-ass essays if you want to stand out in any of the applicant pools for those schools you're applying to. I think you have the highest chances of getting into Cornell.

For O levels: 7A1s 2 A2s
For A levels : predicted grade: 4As ... i might be taking F maths as a private candidate (not confirm yet)

I'd say you are a strong candidate for those schools, but it still depends a lot whether you apply with a score of 1390 or 1590. So, I would reiterate someone else's advice - wait for the SAT I score and decide accordingly.

SAT I score is 1550: 800 for Maths , 750 for verbal

you have a good shot at Cornell. MIT, P'ton and Harvard are reaches, your EC's and awards are weak (compared to the intl pool)

In the manner of the Singaporean Government letters:
1. Well done.
2. You are a fine candidate.
3. You have a very good chance at Cornell - I'd go so far as to say you're in. (I assume you applied Cornell Engineering.)
4. You have a good chance at Harvard and Princeton.
5. You have a slim chance at MIT (MIT's Singapore quota is stupid. 1-2 acceptances a year).
6. Good luck.

hi,
not sure if this is the rite place but i juz want comments on my chances.
i am an indian girl but been studyin in singapore for over 6yrs.
my sat scores is 1570 (800 verbal n 770 math).
my sat2 score is 800 physics, 770 math2C, but i screwed writing 670 and since i sat for dec'04 no time to retake..
other academic, well till sec sch(olevel/10th grade) i had i guess pretty gd record as i was valedictorian, top student Olevel in school and top for Eng lang, math and eng n chem at during sec3 (9th)
Olevel grades: 6A1s n 2A2..A1 in Eng, Hindi, Emath, AMath, Phy, Chem ( i did nto take olevel Bio however took it up at alevel)
A2 for Geography and combines Humanities (Social st + lit)
for Hindi as well i was prize winner throughout due to 1st position but only in my class... my cca were Red Cross (i ws co- chairman and at rank of staff seargent) as well as drama n debate..
as for JC (11th n 12th),unfortunately I slacked a lot and was not serious about studies till last minute. My grades were just so-so around B or C mostly..:( obviously now i wish i had worked hard in JC...)
I did last minute cramming for Alevels.
my sub for Cambridge Singapore Alevels were C Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, General Paper (GP), Hindi ( i scored A1 as hindi results were out last yr) .
I am also taking Spaper for chem(somewhat equal to US honors paper) however, i have very low hopes for hitting even a merit for that now though i have heard US hardly takes in consideration Spaper.. my cca have been Cricket (the only jc with girls team) and i am vice-capt, indian cultural society, CT REP (class monitress). Unfortunately i was not serious enough in yr1 (11th) to sign up for any of the olympiads.
I do volunteer work at a nationaly recognised community group SINDA. I did not work in summers last year ( i doubt it is a valid excuse but most singaporean studnets in my opinion generally do NOT wokr in summers, only at end of O or A level when waiting for results).however now i have a job at NUS (natl' uni of singapore). I do research type of work, more specifically data collection on variety of topics.
I am not to sure how gd my recommendation reports will be , i know they wont really be negative but not sure how glowing and as for my essays, i have received mixed results. My GP teacer beleived it to be good however not all found it convincing.
I have applied for MIT, Harvard and UPenn...[why! oh why!]. I know it is a really long shot specially after reading about people with much bttr academics and ECAs but still were rejected however, some did not have very impressive records but stil made it.
So i am hoping for comments.Hope they are not too scary :P as i am already a nervous wreck with GCE Alevels results due in 2 weeks time..
thnx

You have a shot at MIT and Harvard....but the problem is that they take very few international students each year and the competition is fierce. You'll probably get into Upenn unless you applied for Wharton, which is damn difficult to get into. BTW - what school in singapore are you in? I am living in Singapore right now too.

VJC....wat abt u?

ya i unfortunately applied ot Wharton.....:(
and i did not know what to talk about in the essays abt the course so i talked more abt UPenn in general...

How many apply each year?

For india (1.1 billion people, at least 200 applicants), the quota is ~4-5.

abt 100 apply from singapore tts what i have been tokld......itz supposed to be over-represented or soemthin'...haha so india 200: ~4-5
s'pore: 100: ~2

hey boomer01, where/which jc are u from?
