So three of my top choices when I apply next fall are The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Michigan, and university of southern california.
I'm a junior and ill be applying from california. Im a little bit worried because my freshman and sophomore years were a little weak
Freshman: 3.11
Sophomore: 3.4
junior:4.2
Act:30
I realize my freshman and sophomore years were below par for these schools, however my junior year has been very strong. Im a four year varsity soccer player and two year varsity lacrosse player. Caucasian, male.
Any words of wisdom on my chances?
Also, my sister was a top athlete at UNC will this increase my chances?

I think that your chance at UNC is very low, given that only 16% of OOS students are accepted.

Is it too late to apply for the fall of 2015 for a international undergraduate student program?

What is you uw GPA in 4.0 scale? Anyway, it seems it would be much lower than the average of 3.83 for UMich. You ACT is at around 35%. So UMich would be a low reach to reach for you.

My gpa on a 4.0 scale is a 3.4…but that only includes up until my first semester junior year…so it is bound to go up. Also, my highschool is very challenging and is ranked really high, so this may make a difference.

Yes, course load and school profile may help when you have a low GPA. However, the admission stat already includes these factors. Does your school rank?

The upward trend might make up for the below average GPA.

The UC system gives an instate preference. You should be considering schools like UCSC or UCSB, the savings would be significant and the chances of getting in probably greater. GL

Alright thanks a lot guys. My school does not release ranks, but i would assume im in the top 10 percent or so. So do you guys think these schools are out of reach? If not which ones do you think i could have a shot at?

Aceofdiamonds…everyone tells me that due to my upward trend ill have a greater chance at getting into schools that other kids with my gpa are normally capable of. I just have to ask, how much will my upward trend make up for it. Ive also heard that umich doesnt even consider freshman year gpas, so this would help my overall gpa.

^ That’s right. Many schools do not count grades from freshman year.

does anyone have an idea of the chances of me getting in to these schools?
