So I'm going to be a Junior for the 2013-2014 year. In 9th I had a 4.08 weighted GPA. In 10th I had a 4.35 weighted. Now the scary part is my cumulative GPA so far is only a 4.22, while on
Profile of Admitted Freshmen, Fall 2012 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions it shows the average weighted is a 4.40 but that GPA are for 10th and 11th Grade GPA's (I had a 4.35 weighted in 10th, and a 4.08 in 9th). On College Data it says the average weighted is a 4.16 University of California, Los Angeles Admissions Results for Class of 2017
I'm assuming that's the cumulative GPA from 9-11th? Do I have any chance with my current weighted GPAs? I'm looking into UCLA, Berk, and Texas A&M. Do I have any chance? Also, I taken SAT's 5 times so far, and have scored a 2100 recently. I hope to improve that to a 2150 or 2200.

Anyone? Please? If its too much work to read, I got a 4.08 in 9th and a 4.35 in 10th. What are my chances? Am I on track? I’m pretty stressed whether my 9th grade gpa will bring down my chances.

9th grade is not part of the UC GPA, nor is 12th grade (i.e. not counted for evaluation purposes, if admitted as long as you don’t fail a class or get too many Cs during senior year you should be fine)
Use the A-G list to calculate what your UC GPA is, which could be slightly different than what you have. As long as you take as rigorous of a courseload that you can handle and do well in all your classes you should be within range numbers wise, the rest falls on your essays, extracurriculars, etc.

Also that’s a lot of times to have taken the SAT, you may have to report each test administration (last I checked UC didn’t allow Score Choice). I would not retake the test again, 2100 is already above the average for UCLA admitted students. Are you counting the PSAT as well?

Thank you. What I meant was that for the SAT I have not taken it for an actual score, I have taken Practice SAT’s 5 times so far (I am going into 11th), and I got a 2100 last time. I am only taking 1 AP c.ass in 11th (I didn’t take any in 10th), pretty much all of the rest of my classes are pre-ap (aka honors). Will that be a big deal? Taking AP instead of Pre-Ap wouldn’t raise my GPA at all. I’ll be researching college essays essays soon, thanks. Also I play the Violin, And I’m in 4 clubs (like robotics, NHS, Deca etc…) is that ok for Extra-curriculums?

Well in that case, you’re in good shape, if you get around the same score on the actual SAT. Your schedule/courseload will be a factor in the admissions process. How many AP classes does your school offer? I would take AP and bypass pre-AP if possible. AP classes also give you 5.0 instead of 4.0 (if you get an A) for your UC GPA, and in general look better than honors classes. Doing well on AP exams can only help you. More is not always better in terms of extracurriculars, just participate in what you’re most interested in and try to convey that passion in your essays

Thanks. Also I’m out of state, and at my school Pre-Ap courses weigh 5 points, I guess since I’m out of state, they don’t give me bonus points for taking “honor” courses and since I’m only taking 1 AP course in 11th I’m pretty much screwed I guess. I took Pre-Ap instead of AP since my school weighs them the same, and Pre-Ap is easier. I guess I screwed myself by taking too many Pre-AP’s and not enough AP’s.

High school Honors classes have to be approved for extra weighting in GPA. There’s a list of classes per California high school for that, but I’m not sure if UCs do anything for schools outside California. It may be indeed that UCs only give AP classes extra weight.
