What Are My Chances?

Hi, I am an Indian Male from New York, and I wanted to know my chances at some colleges. I am currently a junior in a very competitive high school (top 50 in the country) and I am looking at colleges such as MIT, Yale, Duke, UPenn, Cornell, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, U Virginia, and the Service Academies.

General Info:
GPA: Unweighted 3.8 (Again, a very competitive school, not even the valedictorian has a 4.0)
Weighted: 4.0 + (I can't really calculate the weighted accurately)
Class Rank: Top 10%
National Merit Semifinalist / Finalist (Got a 225 on my PSAT)
SAT: 2250 + (Haven't taken it yet, but this is according to my PSAT score)
SAT II: 800 in Physics
800 in Math II
760 in Chemistry
AP Courses: 8 + (All with 4s and 5s)

Honors/Awards (Only the ones that I have gotten in 9th and 10th grade, I plan to get more in 11th grade):
1st place overall: NY State DECA Competition (10th grade)
Top 10 Award: Marketing Written Exam in NY State DECA Competition (10th Grade)
Top 10 Award: Role Play 1 in NY State DECA Competition (10th Grade)
Top 10 Award: Role Play 2 in NY State DECA Competition (10th Grade)
2nd place overall: Nassau County Regional DECA Competition (10th grade)
Top 10 Award: Marketing Written Exam in NY State DECA Competition (9th grade)
Top 10 Award: Role Play in NY State DECA Competition (9th grade)
8th place: Nassau County Regional DECA Competition (9th grade)
Bronze Medal: Long Island Math Fair for Cryptography Project (10th grade)
Bronze Medal: Nassau County Math Fair for “The Monty Hall Problem” (9th grade)
1st Place: Team finish by Mathletes Team in Nassau County (9th grade)

Extracurricular Activities:
Did an Internship at my Local Congressman's Office
Vice President of Psychology Club in 11th Grade
Treasurer of Chess Club in 11th Grade
Member of DECA in 9th, 10th and 11th
Member of Model United Nations in 9th, 10th and 11th grade
Member of Habitat for Humanity in 10th and 11th Grade
Member of Mathletes in 9th and 10th grade
Volunteer Work at local Hospital (Over 100 hours so far)

So this is my admission profile so far. I shouldn't have a problem with the recommendation letters, college essays and the interviews. Can anyone tell me my chances at these colleges, and/or how I could further enhance my resume.

Thank You, any help is appreciated.

I think based on what you have shown you are a strong candidate for these schools. Keep working hard, getting involved, and pursuing your interests and I’d say you have a good shot at some of these places.

Thanks for your answer

I’d say all of those are reaches if you don’t get at least a 2100 on your SAT (just saying, PSAT means nothing because my highest was a 178 and I got a 2150 on the actual SAT). I only say they’re reaches because affirmative action is going to have a negative effect on you. If you keep up the good work and get that 2250 then I’d say this is what you’re looking at:

MIT- Reach
Vanderbilt- Match
Northwestern- Match
UVa- Low Match/Safety
Cornell- Match
Duke- Match
UPenn- High Match
Yale- Reach

PS- Why are you not applying to Navy, Army, or Air Force if you are so interested in the military?

That psat is National merit semifinalist level which means a lot and certainly predicts a great SAT score. Your profile seems excellent and ivies and mit are reaches for everyone. Not sure what DECA is.

Thanks for your replies!

Arswan: As for the Navy, Army or Airforce, I am actually applying to their academies; however I know I don’t represent the “typical” applicant that they accept (Usually they have multiple varsity sports and/or are a varsity sport Captain). Thats still not going to stop me from trying though!

Milkweed: DECA is a business club that is comparable to the club, Future Business Leaders of America. Basically, its a club that has over 200,000 members and hosts business competitions at the local or regional, state and international level. These competitions run annually and judge students abilities to think, overcome obstacles and solve problems that modern businesses face.
