What are my Chances?

ACT: 26 (Retaking it and hoping for a 32 at least)
GPA: 4.0 Weighted and 3.5 Unweighted (If I calculated it correctly. My school doesn't show my UW GPA on my transcript)
Rank: Top 10%, 24/286 (My rank should have increased since this is based off of my junior year.)

I've been in the IB program for all of my high school life, so all of my classes minus gym (requirement to graduate), finance (requirement to graduate) and music (until 11th grade) have been IB. Although for music I was in the advance class prior to 11th grade.

I'm taking 4HL classes this year, which is the max I can take at my school. I did get a C+ in IB mathematics SL due to personal issues that year, which affected me.

I've taken Spanish for 6 years and I'm decent in it.

I'm a first generation American if that's important

I got a 3 for AP: US History

Essays: They're decent, my English teacher approved so I'm not mad.

And if it isn't too much trouble can you please suggest some schools to me. I plan on majoring in Computer Science.

Don't be afraid to criticize me.
Thanks
;)

Based on what you have now, I would suggest you get that 32 you’re aiming for. If you get that act, you should be good for most schools on your list.

Here are some notes:
-UC’s/UW/UIUC/GaTech/UMN are all really competitive in engineering. Their freshman profiles do not really reflect the difficulty of admission. For example, even though UoM as a whole has an average ACT of around 28 or so, their engineering average is somewhere around 31 iirc. Don’t quote me on that, but it is definitely harder to get into, especially if you’re out of state.

 • I’m not sure if UC’s even consider legacy; I would look into it.
 • Have you looked into the financial side of applying to OOS public schools? I don’t know very much about them, but as someone who has fiddled with their cost calculators, they don’t give much to people who don’t live in state. I would consider going deeper into that and seeing if your family could afford it before applying.

Other than that, I think the fact that you’re a URM with some decent EC’s, you have a decent shot at some of these schools if you bump that ACT up.

Thank you

UC’s do not consider Legacy and the price tag as an OOS student is $55K/year with little or no financial aid. You will need that ACT of 32 for consideration by UCB and UCSD and your ACT of 26 will not make you competitive for UCSB or UCI. UCSC would be the only UC at the moment where you have a decent chance for acceptance. You have a great GPA and EC’s but if you are looking for any amount of FA, cross the UC’s off the list. They want full pay OOS students. Sorry and Good Luck.

I appreciate the truth
