I am a senior applying undecided to UMASS Amherst early action. My high school (public) is pretty competitive academically- will this help me? My unweighted gpa is a 3.1, weighted is 3.2. My ACT is 29. I am taking AP biology this year and have taken more honors classes in the past couple years. I only have one C on my transcript as a final grade in a class throughout high school, the rest are primarily B/B+.

It really also depends on where you go to school, meaning region/ state wise. Kids from my school, in state, go to UMass and get accepted with a plethora of GPA ranges some go up to almost 5.00s to some as low as in the mid 2.00s it really depends. UMass really focuses on in state students, as do most state schools, but that’s their primary focus when they look at applicants. It gets harder for out of state. It also depends on what major you are applying for. Your GPA is slightly lower if you were out of state but considering you said it is a competitive school that will most likely boost your chances. If you have that and your school is truly very competitive and there usually are a lot of kids who get accepted with your stats you should be golden. If you know people who have been admitted in your school ask around that is really helpful. Your test scores are also very good so that shouldn’t be a problem. Sorry if I was;t much help! The best of luck to you!
