Job/Work Experience: Working at nearby grocery store, tutoring.
Volunteer/Community Service: Volunteering at local shelter (Head Start, Big Brothers Big Sisters, canned food drives, etc.), participant in Best Buddies High Schools program, Project Linus, field day volunteering at local elementary schools, Black History Month assemblies, peer tutoring, ecological volunteering around the area (led efforts to help pick up trash, rake leaves; that sort of thing), JHUAPL Girl Power volunteering, founded robotics team at local middle school, manual conservation work.
Summer Activities: Volunteering at local nature center, working at grocery store. Also continued a year-long research project on the monetary restrictions on the American space program in which I was mentored and assisted by the host of a podcast show and a member of the NASA Advisory Council.
Essays: Discussed topics that meant a lot to me; I thought they were good.
Teacher Recommendations: Not sure how either of them were, honestly (didn't read). Both teachers like me a lot and were more than happy to write them, so hopefully they weren't problematic at the least, and very helpful at best.
Counselor Rec: Didn't read, but I'm presuming they're about as good as they'll get. She knows me fairly well because of national/regional/state/school awards, and because of other applications for programs like MITES that have gone through her.
Interview: Lasted for about an hour. Conversation seemed to flow well and my interviewer was very nice.

Chance me for: Columbia, Dartmouth, JHU, Princeton, Rice, Stanford, UPenn, and Yale? Thanks in advance!

Ignore the “Interview” part. lol

Bump? I’d really appreciate any chancing. I’ll chance back!

Bump…

Pretty well balanced resume but nothing in particular that stands out. Similar stats to mine but a slightly higher SAT (I didn’t get into Columbia, Penn, Stanford or Yale last year) and being African American helps.

High Reaches: Princeton, Columbia, Penn, Stanford, Yale
Mid Reach: Dartmouth
Low Reach: JHU
High Match: Rice

Best of Luck!

Most of the time, Ivys are a reach for anyone. Your writing SAT is a bit low for Rice, but your other scores are within range. You seem like a good candidate for JHU, but with an acceptance rate of 15% it’s tough to say. Your SAT writing is once again a bit low for Dartmouth. I’d say same as above except switch Rice and JHU.

Your extracurriculars and SAT look good to me, and URM status is quite a hook. The only two things I notice that may be bad are your GPA and your Math II score. Nevertheless, I could see someone with your stats get into all of these places
Columbia, Princeton, Stanford, Yale: reach - just saying this because you never quite know the reasoning behind their decisions
Dartmouth, UPenn: low reach
JHU, Rice: high match
(thanks for chancing me by the way!)

Still looking for chances, feedback, and general advice. Also chancing back!

JHU/Rice/Dartmouth are low reaches
the rest are reaches
Being URM will help
You should get into one of the schools

Bump.

bump

bump

bump

Rigorous course load, high SAT scores and high GPA – everything ivy schools like to see. I see comments about low GPA, but a 3.77 is still above the recommended 3.75 for UPenn. The only real problem I see is your SAT II math score. 15% of all test takers taking the Math IIC get a score of 800, so a score of below 700 will be a problem. What major are you applying for? If business, I know Wharton likes to see the most advanced calculus course and high math scores in general. You are taking the most advanced calc course, BC, but your math exam scores are not as high as they would expect. Apart from that, I would say you are a competitive candidate! Good luck!

@Chanceme31415 Thanks! I am also worried about my M2 score. I’m hoping to go into bioengineering, but it’s still a STEM field. I really didn’t plan out my study time enough before taking the SAT IIs and ended up having very little time to study for M2 unlike Bio. And I actually just took Literature dry but it turned out decently. I was considering retaking but I guess it’s a little late now. I hope it’s not going to drag me down too much. :-SS

Thanks for the chance!
