Notre Dame has been my dream school since birth but my test scores are low, (29 ACT). I have a 4.13 GPA and am ranked 9/392. I have tons of extracurriculars/volunteerism/leadership and I am a legacy. Would these factors help my chances of acceptance enough for them to outweigh my low ACT?
Thanks for any insight!
If possible, would retake ACT or take the SAT if not done already.
My son initially had a 30 on the ACT. The last two sections dragged him down. He basically ran out of time on each of those sections and had to hurry and it showed. Most of his incorrect answers he got were at the end of those sections.
The ACT seems to be more time sensitive. You really have to pace it well.
I recommend getting an ACT prep book that has lots of practice tests and do timed practices concentrating on the sections that you had difficulty with the first time.
He did this and his composite score went from 30 to 33 the next time he took it. Nearly all of his improvement was in those last two sections and he said that he did not have to rush that time. He got in as REA this year.
Other than your test score you sound like a good candidate. I don’t see why you couldn’t have the same improvement.
Good luck.
agreed: I meant to sign up for the SAT but forgot, so I had to take the ACT standby. Having never studied for the science section, I only got a 27 on it. I took the act a month later and went up from a 31 to a 34, mainly because I brought my science section up for a 27 to a 36. Princeton review and Barons are a good place to start.
