So I’m a senior in high school, and I recently applied to 19 schools - though 15 of them were waived application fees.
I got into Elizabethtown College, Hawaii Pacific, University of the Pacific, U Maine, Morningside College, St. John’s University - Manhattan, Washington State University, and Sweet Briar College (this one with a 1/2 scholarship).
I got rejected by one school: University of San Francisco
I’m wondering about my chances with reaches: UCLA, USC, U Delaware, American U, and Boston U (BU being my top choice), because my gpa is a 3.2, 1530 SAT score, but I’ve done a lot musically, from playing at the 2012 Olympic Opening Games in an honor ensemble, to performing in Carnegie Hall soon, and the Rose Parade Honor Band last year. As well as musically, I have achieved a lot in student leadership, attending the National Student Leadership Conference, and being nominated to represent my school at Girls State and HOBY.
My school has a tendency to shun people with any gpa lower than a 3.5, deeming them unworthy of their presence (I wish I was kidding about this too). But I’ve always been a bit of the underdog at my school, and people aren’t exactly thrilled with me at the moment either for it. For instance a girl got mad at me for getting into UoP with my 3.2 HS Overall GPA, and she got rejected despite having a 5.0 and a 2100 SAT score.
Like in all honesty, I thought I was going to end up at community college - which isn’t a bad thing! I’m really surprised that I’ve only gotten one rejection.
I applied undecided too, mostly because I know what I would like to do as a career, but don’t know what majors to take to get there.
I do intend to continue playing in college though, marching band and/or wind ensemble.
Opinions???
I’m waiting to hear back from BU, UCLA, USC, SJSU, U of MA Boston, Seattle Pacific U, American U, Assumption College, and Berklee College of Music.
For the mid-year grades for senior year I got a 3.5 GPA. The whole reason behind my lower gpa was due to completely bombing sophomore year for multiple reasons. I’ve been improving ever since (back then it was a 2.7 gpa…)
