SAT: 1900

AP classes: AP BIOLOGY, AP Stats, AP Computer Science

Awards: HOSA Medical Reading state finalist, FBLA cyber Security state finalist, NHS, NTHS, BETA club, A/B Honor roll 9th, 10th and 11th grades

Extra Curriculars

Do i have a chance on getting into any of those schools and what can I do to improve my chances

Again I am applying to:
– UCLA, UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Georgia tech, NC State, University of Washington at Seattle
and University of Texas at Austin

Thanks

UCLA - Reach
Berkeley - Reach
Carnegie Mellon - Reach
Georgia Tech - Reach
NC State - Match
UW - Match
UT - Low reach/high match

is there any way of boosting my chances besides the ACT/SAT scores which I am confident i can improve

If you could become president of a couple clubs, that would help a lot. You lack leadership on the EC’s. If you’re taking an AP-heavy schedule this year and make all A’s, you could definitely help the GPA and class rank, which would be huge. All in all, those schools are difficult for everyone. Don’t feel bad that some are being called reaches, that’s just life with prestigious colleges. Apart from that, I don’t know what more to say. Definitely boosting the ACT/SAT scores is the biggest part of the process as you know. If you can do most of those things, your chances may still be a reach, but they’re a much lower reach.

I am Taking AP CALC AB and BC, AP Psychology and AP Literature my senior year along with dual enrollment in a community college. I also plan to volunteer a lot starting mid july, hopefully that helps my chances, thanks for the input.

Definitely helps if you can make all A’s with that load. Volunteer hours are great if you’re applying to a school that cares a lot about service, which are mostly your private, religious schools like Notre Dame. It obviously doesn’t hurt, but it’s one of the lowest things on the admissions totem pole.

UCB EECS is impossible with your stats. Get some safeties.

what is your UC GPA? Get the ACT score up, but as of now, UCLA and UCB are reaches. Chance back?

UT Austin has a 7% rule for Texan high schoolers. I believe the amount of people that are automatically admitted with this rule take up about 80% of their admitted students, so if you are out of state it’s a reach and if you are in State it’s still a reach due to the rule but it will be a little easier.Try raising your SAT and ACT. You really have to make sure you have something that makes you stand out from the rest.

Thanks for the input guys. Do u guys have any suggestions for colleges for computer science that are a match for me? and do you think i have any chance of getting into any of the UCs’

You could improve your resume by holding some leadership positions and by becoming more active in service. Luckily, that’s not too hard to do. Also I bet you could still improve your act score a bit more. If you do that I bet your chances of getting in would be a lot better!

Chance me?

A lot of these schools are a reach for you and I pretty much agree with what was said above I would just ask which state you are from because if you are from California, for example, some of those schools may become more attainable. Another example is UT. As a texan, UT is a fairly easy school to get in to especially with credentials like yours but out of state it is MUCH MUCH harder and would be a reach for you.

I live in NC, so UT is a reach, also my DECA club is doing a lot of charity work which I am heading, hopefully that raises my chances. also as as u said, I am trying very hard to improve both my sat and act scores to about 2250 and 34(i am confident i can achieve those scores)

P.S. what do u think my chances are to get into chapel hill?

Are you applying to the Computer Science program at Carnegie-Mellon? If so, that’s also an extreme reach. Its acceptance rate is comparable to Harvard’s or Stanford’s, making it quite unlikely for you with your existing stats. Do not build your list based on the scores you hope to receive in the fall. Only a small minority of students who re-take the tests improve their scores by that much. Most of the colleges on your list will still be reaches even if you beat the odds. You need some colleges you can get into with the stats you have now. University of Washington is also very competitive for Computer Science and Engineering, and is a reach for you. NC State is probably a match. UNC-CH is a reach, but not a completely implausible one as a NC resident. I think you need some more matches on your list. What about Clemson or VA Tech?

yes i am planning on applying to VA tech as well, are there any other colleges you would recommend?
