What are my chances???

My GPA right now is 3.2 (Just began senior year) and I got a 29 on the ACT. I took several AP classes throughout high school (AP Calc, Gov, Econ, U.S. History and Stat) and several honors classes. I really want to go University of Oklahoma, Penn State, Florida State University, Ohio State or Mississippi State. Is it realistic that I can get into some of those schools??

I’m also a rising senior.

Your GPA is a little low for some of these schools and your ACT is a little above average.

Tips: Try studying really hard the first semester this year so that these schools will see that your grades are improving. You should try and study for the next ACT exam to get to at least a 30-32.

It all depends on which major you plan to go into. Some programs may have a higher avg. ACT score and GPA than the actual school itself.

Hope this helps and good luck applying!

You’re GPA is slightly low while your ACT is slightly above average for these schools. It is good that you have taken several AP classes as that demonstrates rigor and preparedness for college. However, to get a full picture of you, it is important to know your achievements, passions, EC’s, job experience, and volunteer work.

If I were one of these colleges and you had several good EC’s, I might accept you. However, if you had poor EC’s, then I might not accept you.

If you’re from out of state, your GPA might be a little low for Penn State. A lot of big public universities place a lot of weight on GPA, but they also weight AP classes pretty generously. I don’t know enough about FSU or Ohio in those respects, but your GPA is probably too low for them to be safe bets. I think you should have no problem getting into Mississippi and Oklahoma. You might consider adding West VA, Iowa, or Kansas to the mix, especially if finances are a consideration.

okay thanks guys!! yeah I have done extracurricular activities such as community service (over 50 hours in the past year), fundraisers, and National Art Honors Society. My weighted GPA is a 3.35, and I am taking the ACT, again, next Saturday.
