What are my chances

I am a Junior in highschool and a prospective student. I would like to know what you think my chances are for acceptance into the school

I am in the top 10% of my class, and my GPA is a 3.92

My SAT Score is an 1860 (Lower than the Midrange)

My EC activities hopefully make up for a bit of lacking test scores

I have been president of Student Government each year I’ve been in high school and I was elected executive board president for next year

I was elected FBLA President for next year

I have been admitted into Peer Leadership for next year (a very difficult feat),

I am a Varsity Tennis and Soccer Player and a candidate for Tennis Captain next year

I have 800+ service hours and I have been a member of the Red Cross Youth Group since freshman year

I have taken AP Calculus and APUSH, I expect to get atleast a 3 on the calculus exam and atleast a 4 on the APUSH, if not a 5

I am also a member of an International Business Alliance Program through Leadership Initiatives in Washington D.C. where I am partnered with a Nigerian Business. Our Group comes up with business plans and solutions to help our partner’s business grow. I am also the fundraising coordinator of the club and I am required to create fundraising solutions to earn 5000 each year which I have been successful with.

With all of this information, do you think my chances are significant enough to consider GWU a reach school, or are my chances simply too minuscule with my lacking test scores?

I don’t think GW is a reach at all. Your GPA is good, EC’s are great, and the volunteer hours are a huge plus. I’d recommend taking more AP’s and/or challenging courses next year and make sure you have a solid essay. If you’re really concerned with your test score (I wouldn’t think it’s enough for them to deny you) you can always apply test optional.

Does applying Test Optional appear to be worse than simply sending my scores? I would guess that students applying Test Optional would have scores lower than typically admitted or they would not be applying test optional. Am I correct in thinking this or is that not the case?

According to press releases I’ve read on the subject, GW claims that applying ‘Test Optional’ doesn’t hurt your chances at all. Then, it comes down to whether or not you trust that they’d tell the truth, lol. In the end, I’ve seen several prospective students on here get admitted while applying ‘Test Optional.’
