- I’m an honors student, have been so all throughout high school.
- I’ve interned at a school for special needs children, I’ve worked at a newspaper, got my writing printed a couple times.
- I was president of my schools community service club. I was a student counselor,
- I’ve been to two international student conferences, one about the environment and one about education in Asia.
- I’ve done MUNs, won ‘Best position paper’ award there. I’ve coordinated conferences at my school.
- I’ve been working with charities since my early teens
Looking only at your SAT score, it would be extremely difficult to get into Hopkins, and the other schools are probably reaches. Since your AS grades show you’re clearly intelligent and capable of taking tests, you should retake the SAT.
Using your numbering above -
- Those schools would all be reaches for you based on your scores, but worth chancing.
- Most applicants to these schools will also be honors students
- Interning at a special needs school should be more developed - if your role was only perfunctory and not truly meaningful to you or to that community, it could come across as dreaded "resume filler". Same with the newspaper - getting yourself published in a school paper with a circulation of 200 is not the same as being published in something read by a few hundred thousand people.
- Bravo on the school community service club. That helps you stand out as being more serious about helping others. Student counselors are a dime a dozen.
- International student conferences might come across as meaningful, or they might make you appear privileged. Be careful how you explain what these were.
- MUN participation is very common, but being awarded "Best position paper" is pretty special, as is coordinating conferences at your school. Congratulations.
- Please continue your charitable work, well beyond school, because it makes a difference both to you and to them.
Best of luck to you.
JHU very unlikely. You have a chance at NYU, Villanova and Boston University. Good luck!
Thanks @3puppies ! and the newspaper wasnt a school one its has one of the biggest circulations in the country (yay) and at the special needs school i’d mostly help out the teachers but i worked there for a while and the kids really took a liking to me so the principal of the school wrote me a fantastic letter of recommendation!
