What are my chances?

Hi everybody, I am a male student currently studying in grade 9 at a Canadian School. I am applying to multiple private schools (which I will list below) for grade 10 .I would like to know your opinion on how likely I am to get in, but more importantly what my weak points are so I can improve them.

Schools I am applying to:
Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter, Choate, St. George’s, Milton Academy, and Groton (may apply to some others that I can not list off the top of my mind. Parents want me to apply to the HADES schools because you know, parents (not St. Paul’s because they rarely give international students financial aid).

SSAT: 92 percentile overall for most recent test, 95% verbal 90%quantitative (from my other test) 79%reading (I know, reading is horrible) Should I retake the test?

Grades: all A+ (in the pre-IB program this year) 5.0 weighted GPA i believe and around A average in grade 8

Achievements and awards:

  • Attended the the Gifted Program (grades 4-8)
  • Provincial violin competition first place
  • University of Waterloo grade 7 Gauss Math Contest outstanding perfect score (99 percentile)
  • Brock University Caribou Mathematics Contest placed in the top 10 out of all participants for the grade 9 contest
  • University of Waterloo grade 8 Gauss Math Contest distinction score (almost perfect)
  • School robotics team placed third in a school board level competition (I was the leader of the team)
  • Part of the leadership team (student council)
  • Chess team won third place at the York Regional District School Board tournament (I was the first seat player as well as a trainer for other players)
  • School band placed first (platinum rating) at a music festival hosted by the School Board (I was principal tuba)
  • Royal Conservatory of Music grade 10 violin examination completed with Honors
  • Royal Conservatory of Music Harmony and History examinations completed with Honors with distinction
  • Placed 3rd and 5th for running long jump and 100-meter dash respectively in the School Board athletic competition
  • Elementary School graduation ceremony Valedictorian/host
  • Chinese class graduation Valedictorian/host + top academic + numerous first place trophies in reading and writing
  • Honor roll
  • Admitted into and currently attending the pre-International Baccalaureate Program, which offers advanced classes and leads to the IB program in grades 11-12; school is ranked 3rd out of almost 700 secondary schools in the province
  • Selected to represent my school in the HOSA Canada competition (a national medical competition) this year
  • Currently playing violin in a professional orchestra (we sold out 600 seats)
  • Valedictorian for School graduation, MC for various other occasions.

Some additional information:

  • I speak three languages
  • I love music and I have been playing violin for almost 8 years, Tuba for 5
  • I have a keen interest in science and math
  • I am in numerous clubs, including 3 school bands but have not achieved anything remarkable in terms of competitions, so I won’t bore you guys to death (above list long enough :3)
  • Immigrated to Canada when I was 3 so my English is fine
  • Unfortunately, I will require quite a lot of financial aid because my family is not very rich. (how much do you think this will impact my chances of admission)
  • I have been in public schools for all my life, does this affect my chances of getting admitted?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I would really appreciate it if you could give me some feedback on my weaker areas, tell me what schools I have a practical chance of getting into, and maybe recommend some other good schools I should apply to (ones that give financial aid to international students).

I don’t think that going to a public school will hurt your chances of being admitted, and I think your SSAT scores are fine compared to mine >.< but you should be aware that Andover’s and I’m sure the rest of the HADES schools’ average is around the 90-95% percentile, so it’s up to you if you want to retake it. Requiring financial aid will decrease your chances. I think your interest/ achievements in the arts would be a great subject to highlight, and your GPA and grades are stunning. Are you interested in any sports? Are you part of an over-represented-minority(i.e. Asian) or an under-represented(i.e. African American)? I think that’s a pretty important factor in the admission process, but I’m not too savvy on it. Assuming you ace your essays and interviews, I think you have a good chance.
