To go along with my last post, can anyone chance me for regular decision and early decision? I’m planning on majoring in industrial engineering, from NY, female & asian (won’t help i know). Also is industrial engineering very competitive to get accepted for?
GPA: unweighted: 91
weighted: 94
ACT: 32
taking 3 ap’s this year
extracurriculars are pretty average, part time job etc. nothing “special” i’m guessing : p Thanks!!
You look like a competitive candidate, but I can’t give you an exact number. If it helps, Lehigh says that 33.4% of applicants with 32-33 ACT (or 1400-1490 SAT) were accepted for Fall 2016, which was higher than the overall acceptance rate of 26.1%. The odds will definitely improve if you apply ED; the overall ED acceptance rate was 59.9%.
Being female will probably help you, not hurt you. Lehigh, unlike many top universities, gets fewer female applicants than male: the Common Data Set says 7548 male and 5855 female applicants for Fall 2016. So they accept female applicants at a higher rate: for example, the overall acceptance rate was 23.5% for men and 29.4% for women. Furthermore, I would suspect that these disparities are even more pronounced in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, which is where you want to major.
Being Asian probably won’t hurt you either. Lehigh, unlike many top universities, does not have a particularly high Asian-American enrollment: 9%, according to College Navigator.
If you have a handicap, it’s being from New York. Over 60% of Lehigh students come from just three states – PA, NY, and NJ. Lehigh would like to reduce that number and recruit more broadly (particularly on the West Coast). But hey, at least you aren’t from New Jersey (which sends more students to Lehigh than any other state, including Pennsylvania).
